Do you use fEARful?

Cant this be said for any piece of gear that you have never tried personally? I have never seen a Bergantino/Acme/Baer/Barefaced cab in the city I live in. I had to drive to chicago to try out the Bergs. For someone near me, it would be easier to demo a greenboy cab. So this problem is not unique to any brand, and will varry depending on location

It is easy to find the location of greenboy cab users though.

Once again this applies to Bergantino/Acme/Baer/Barefaced or any other brand that the major stores dont carry. That doesnt take away from any of those cabs, it is more a comment that the common offerings at big box stores are based more around price point than quality product/sound. Maybe we should expect more out of our retailers, instead of maligning about the lack of presence of certain gear.

Nice thing about the greenboy cabs, you can order them with out the tweeter, and then not have to pay for the parts/labor associated with them, which I do not think is the case with the Bergs or ACMEs. Nice thing about most cabs with tweeters, you can turn them off.

You are right. There are limited stores that carry Bergantino. Living in Columbus, Ohio, the nearest dealer is in Cincinnati about 100 away.

Acme cabs are mail order only but they do have a 10 return policy.

Acme does sell a 12" cab without a tweeter and I have a Bergantino NV 215 which does not have a tweeter.

Yes, fEARfuls can be made or bought (I guess.) without a tweeter.

As difficult as it is to hear a Bergantino or Acme, etc........it's even more difficult to hear a fEARful. Unless if my next door neighbor has one.

Once again.............make purchases based on sight and sound and not hearsay.

Couple a month.

Right, so if this poll was about Genz amps/gear on this forum there would be a lot more "Users" checking in. Globally/on TB it is a well known quantity.

There are parts of this country where people have never heard of or do not have access to Genz gear. Their distribution has not reached out to the point where it is a well known quantity to all musicians.

That does not invalidate their designs in those areas. If I walked in to the GC in my town and asked about a Genz, the sales guys wouldnt even know what I was talking about. They would take me over and try to sell me an ampeg or GC house brand amp though.

Commonality =\= quality

I would never say that the BW's are capable of the same volume as the 3015LF's in correct boxes. I just said my BW loaded Peavey 215 cab gets louder than I will ever need and I like the way it sounds.

Isn't this the point about bass cabs? Hopkins likes his Peavey 2-15 BW and says, "I like the way it sounds." He goes with what his ears tell him. I bow before you!

That's the basis for buying a cab. Whatever it is.

Some would say that Peavey bass cabs are bad. Some others would say fEARfuls are not necessary.

It's all about what we hear with our ears and what we like.

I'd personally love to hear a fEARful. A dual 15 + mid range (no tweeter please!) But my Berg NV 215 (2-15s + a 6") gives me everything
I like about bass sound. And my Acme Low B 2-10 is a wonderful smaller cab that sounds like an 18" or 15" cab (the tweeter is turned off).

Is fEARful the cat's meow in bass cabs? Probably for some.

One thing I've learned here on Talk Bass and from personal experience..............let us be the judge of what we want bass to sound like.

There are some fEARful cabs in Ohio. The user maps has many people marked.

That said if you are ever up in the mitten look me up. I have 2/3 of greenboy's 215 cabs. Both have tweeters, but both have defeat switches on them. You, or anyone for that matter is more than welcome to come kick the tires.

One future day I will step into a plane to do so! You neighbours will hate me :-)

I agree with you. Respectfully, you seem to be debating a point I neither made nor hold.

I should have my dual channel pre by then. Tell you what we can plug the Dually and the '66 in for a wet/dry rig and REALLY piss them off. :bassist:

Muhahahaha!!!
Which dual-channel pre are you looking for? Thought of dual-channel myself but wasn't able to find a decent one...

Maybe I can arrange next years family holiday near you :-)

You can allways hop into your car and drive over the "afsluitdijk" to checkout my cabinet (that I posted on the previoud page) :D

Japp, that's true! Still try assemble enough people around here for a descent fEARful GTG. If you'd join with your quite special cabinet as well, we are already 4 people :-)

It is easy to afford new gear when you have an OK job, are single, no kids, and no debts.

2 out of 4... Not that bad, aight? :smug: No seriously, I know what you mean :-)
And it's much more precious to you when you made the money yourself. Even more when you built it yourself (in case of fEARful cabs for example)
