Do you use fEARful?

Yeah around here if it's not at Long & Mcquade you're pretty much sh!t out of luck. But they do have financing

If you're to have one "Big Box" store around, L&M seems like the one to have. From what I can tell, they have a decent selection and competitive pricing and even carry stuff like Sheldon Dingwall's basses. Good luck finding gear like that at GC in the United States.

I switched just do to size and weight. I went from a NV610 to 2 F112 Fearless cabs. each cab is 25lbs and put out the same volumes.

I used to have an Berg HT115 as part of my pre-fEARful rig too. It sat and sat for a couple years until I sold it last spring.

I do understand the problem with trying before buying. I was a fairly early adopter, and not only was their a leap in faith in sound, but also the added uncertainty of finding someone to build my boxes and the work to complete them myself. I ended up loving the projects and the cabs. I win. I also win because at the time, my 3015LF's cost about $130 each.

To the same point though, nearly any boutique amp, cab, bass, pedal, etc.. You're NOT going to find them on the 'circuit' nor are you going to find them in most local stores unless you've got one of the few rare specialty stores. In the years i used a Berg, I saw one other. In the years I used a Schroeder, I never saw one. I know one guy who uses a Genz amp, and he's an industry guy and a TB'er. For years people looked funny at my Markbass LMII even though I got it at Guitar Center! If its not Fender, Ampeg, Hartke, GK or a handful of other large production common amps, you're not going to see it or hear it in person.

My fEARful is my favorite bass cabinet, and I've had some nice ones.
To be totally honest, there is one thing about fEARfuls that I miss from a more "conventional" cabinet, and that is the baked-in low-mid hump that most cabinets have to some extent. So, you need a little extra eq power to get the traditional sound, backing off the low bass and bumping up the low mids.

One of the reasons I continue to be very content with my 3 fEARful cabs is that they gracefully handle eq adjustments - drastic eq adjustments when needed. And when it comes to "flat" as it relates to the knobs on any given amp or preamp - I could nearly care less about calculating what setting is flat. We try to use eq sparingly for a variety of reasons. I've learned a whole lot about eq since I've been using fEARfuls and have thus improved my tone. And they are very obedient when pushed hard by hand technique, amp settings or amp power or all of those. fEARful cabs give me the tone I want.

Besides a fEARful I've also been considering a GK NEO 410 or 212. The 410 is the only cab of these three that I actually got to try out. I heard that the 410 is supposed to be tuned to have more low-end than the 212, and the 212 is more on the neutral side in terms of sound/coloration. Any comments as to how the coloration of the GKs may help or hinder in terms of versatility of tone vs the fEARful? I would be running them through 700RBII

Did you like the coloration of the GK cabs?

They wont go as deep, or as high, or have the same mid presence, or go as loud.

I am of the belief that eq knobs can be turned for good effect.

I was pretty strict, and didn't put up with any crap - just like it was when I was growing up... so, going out on their own ASAP *probably* seemed like a good idea... I left my folks house as soon as I graduated, at 17...

My dad got so much cooler when we stopped living together. He was all, "hey want a beer?" And I was all, "Im only 20..." and then he goes, "You paid your own rent this month? that deserves a beer..."

You'd need to just try out that cab with your 700 rbi. It's hard to predict the versatility of tone. If you can try out that cab with that head you'll just have to really listen for what you want.

I voted "no" but I do play through 3 way cabs of my own design (mods, please delete if inappropriate). As far as getting adult kids out of the house - I got all but my youngest out and then moved from Michigan to Texas. At the last minute, my youngest decided to stay in Michigan to finish college, but then my oldest came down with us for a "fresh start". Now my wife desperately misses the other kids (I have a total of 4) and has a standing offer for any (or all) to come and stay with us until they "get on their feet" down here. So in addition to having my oldest living with us, his younger brother is contemplating moving down here with his wife in a few months. I should have gotten a bigger house! ;)

Higher volume gigs get my 12.6 and 12.sub setup. Lower volume gigs I use a 2 x 1x10 setup that was built using the bracing techniques and lighter (12mm) wood that GB brought to light with the fearful...

I also have a custom built 2x15 as a part of my tube rig. Mostly it hangs in the studio space... Halloween gig this year i'm urnning it as my effects channel and the fearful setup for clean... That should be scary enough :-)
