I ask this because I have read many threads on two different views of this, particularly in the classifieds. The first is that a nice, heavy, thick slab of wood in excess of 10-12 pounds accounts for unmatched, resonate tone quality.
Heavy tends to also mean stiff which means less resonance, in that the wood resonates less. When people say 'resonant tone' in general they mean 'doesn't resonate much' in reality. You hear more of the sound from the strings.
