Does a VH/Roth reunion without Michael piss you off?

It does seem like they put Mike's pics back on the album covers on the VH page. Good move, given that Wolfie not onyl wasn't on those records, but wasn't born yet! Hell, the Wolfie myspace page linked earlier had lots of pics of Mike. I hadn't heard about the royalties screwing over he took from "the brothers", but if that is true, it sux. I know one of EVH's issues with mike was that Mike's got the hot sauce biz happening, at least EVH can SAY that and not sound quite as much like a girl (sorry, girls...) as he would if he said it was cuz Mike was still cool with Sammy. To that end, I say let Mike play with Sammy, and sell hot sauce. Let's see, mikey's got sauce, EVH has/had the EBMM gtr, the 5150 PV amp, the Wolfie PV gtr, the fender/5150 amp, the new charvel EVH gtr, the MXR pedals, the "d-tuna" for the floyd.....

I dunno. I do know that I saw both the second date of the last tour with sammy, and DLR's band that same year. DLR put on a much better show. His band could play, he sounded pretty good, for DLR anyway.

Ed's so much of a marketing whore, he'd probably sell tampons with black and white stripes on them.(There's a joke in there somewhere;) ) From a marketing perspective, he's starting to look like Gene Simmons.

I saw the Sammy/DLR concert when they stopped here in Philly. I believe they alternated who opened each night - and Sammy opened the night I saw the show. Sammy was solid, but his set was VERY short. That was disappointing. Sammy is up there in years but he can still bring it. The guy is SIXTY!!! And still gracious and approachable.

DLR came out and he is no dummy - his band was awesome - guitar player was fantastic, and they were all on volume #11. The background vocals were very loud, and David spent most of the show jumping around, shreiking and talking the lyrics, as well as talking to the crowd during the show.. "You Sing!!!" (in other words, PLEASE sing the song for me...)

It was what it was. I can't see this show being much different in regards to DLR. They'll pump in the backing vocals - and the music will be louder than ever.

While half way thru Jamie's Cryin' - DRL will go :help:

+ 1000, after seeing Roth do the Bluegrass performance on Leno and Eddie peddling his gear in every article like some kind of infomercial, I have no interest in seeing the reunion.

My sig gives me away on this. I'm not impressed. It's not that Mike's a virtuoso, it's that Mike's perfect for the band and integral to its sound. On top of that, the guy has been a company man since, what, 1973? He stood by the band through two singer changes, even as his role in the studio was diminishing. And he HAD to've heard the rumblings about replacing him with Billy Sheehan or Jeff Berlin. His good pal Sammy is edged out acrimoniously, and Mike stands firm. He is forced to sign away the last of his corporate ties to the band as a provision of his participation in the 2004 tour, and even has his royalty rate reduced on the pre-1995 material (per the leaked portions of Sammy's book, I don't know that he gets publishing on anything after F.U.C.K.). And he took all this, like a dog that gets beat for no reason, because he loves what he does and appreciates the fans that make it possible. This fan in particular appreciates it back. Until Mike is reinstated, Van Halen gets no more of my money. Zero. That's concert dollars I'll be spending on Sammy and the Wabos this fall instead. I'll pay to see the people who haven't disappeared up their own orifices.

Did anyone notice that MA has been 'shopped out of the cover of the debut album on the VH website? And that Women and Children First has had the cover photo removed entirely? That's the final straw for me. To proceed without Mike is one thing, and that's fine. To attempt to erase him from a long history is unconscionable. Mikey, if by some fluke you lurk here and are reading this, write a book. Do it. Do it. I wanna see Ed and Al go apoplectic with rage.

I was already very pre-disposed to think negatively about a VH reunion tour w/o MA but I did not know about alot of this shabby treatment and blatant disrespect shown to him. I am in 100% agreement with you on this JB, not a cent of mine will support this fiasco. I don;t have any bad feelings for the kid, if I was him I would be doing it too.

As someone mentioned above, the album cover on the VH website now has the proper picture of Michael Anthony in the lower left. In the interest of shameless self promotion, I am going to take full credit that this has been done.

Dave, Eddie, and Alex:

Cutting Michael Anthony’s image out of the pictures of your first album cover on your website is simply asinine. I’ve been a VH fan since the early days in the late 70’s and I can still remember when Eddie was complaining to guitar magazine journalists that no one wanted to interview him. You have forgotten where you came from, and even worse you have forgotten old fans like me. Not that you will be crying about it but this new tour of yours won’t see a dime of my money, and I know that a lot of first generation VH fans feel the same way.

Before anyone starts lobbing overly ripe tomatoes and cabbages at me, my comment about taking credit for the restoration of MA's pic was a joke. So please hold your fire.

I saw the press conference they did on VH1, and I gotta say, to me, EVH seemed almost choked up over the prospect of playing with his son. It is possible he may have let that get the best of him in this MA vs no MA thing. Dunno. I do know some of the things he said in the radio interview posted above are bogus, with regards to
"now finally having a rythm section" or some such.... MA, not a solid player?? I won't drink that coolaide, sorry.

See the show?? If they come to FL, I'll try to be there.

Well, you don't go to Van Halen for truth. That band has been spinning ******** into gold for twenty years. Every single change the band ever made, Eddie was "thrilled" and the band sounded" the way it always should have". He's a used car salesman.

Roth is the worst. This isn't a reunion, it's a new band.... that will play no new songs, just the early Van Halen catalog. Van Halen is a corporate logo, nothing more.
