Does anyone still use the old Eden cabs?

Does anyone still use the olde Eden XLT or XST cabs any more. How do they stack up to newer tones?

I’ve got a Mesa PH610 for my big shows where I have to vary all the bass but looking for something a bit lighter for rehearsal and smaller gigs.

I use an Orange 4Stroke 300 head and like an aggressive Squire/Lee tone. A 210xlt has popped up for sale and he says he will take my 90s SVT 3pro as a trade. The price is right on this one, but it’s been a long time since I’ve owned an XLT.

Thanx for the help!

I used XLT cabs with my last touring rig. In regards to tone and volume I think they would compare well with current cabs. They do have their own unique baked in voicing. Also they are fairly large and rather heavy IMHO. D210XLT weighs 68lbs and D410XLT weighs 98lbs.

AFAIK the XSTs are flatter and played a bit lower.

I have used a pair of 212XLT cabs in our practice space for about a year now and they still surprise me with their warm, thick, lively response every week. I have played exactly one show with mine, but expect to finally start performing with them again next week. I play metal using conventional bass guitars as well as basses vi with roundwound strings, several pedals, and a wee Traynor SB500H set relatively flat. I had the horns/tweeters/whatever completely removed from the circuitry since I use heavy distortion regularly and have no use for ultra-high end anyway, but they ordinarily have them if you want them.

Even in their heyday I doubt anyone considered any Eden cabs “lightweight” in any sense of the word, but I do find the 2x12s manageable enough, and the 2x10s look considerably more compact. Unless you really have to limit your lifting, an Eden 2x10 still seems like a fine choice for a small rig.

I haven’t tried many newer lightweight cabs, but my old Eden cabs compare favorably to the Mesa Subway cabs I’ve tried (2x12 and 2x10, I think) and blow the MarkBass cabs I’ve tried (2x10 and 4x10, I think) entirely out of the water.

Just check to make sure rodents haven’t moved in! They don’t have anything to keep them out of the ports and I had to refuse a 115XLT I ordered through Guitar Center due to just such an infestation 🤢 It still sounded great, though 🤣🤣🤣

I still use my 1997 210XLT. Not quite sure what defines newer tones but I always get sounds out of it that I like.

They advertised 3/4" plywood and dattoed corners.

Still use my 210 xlt 4ohm at home (its heavy and physically awkward), also still use my 212xlt 8ohm when able (while larger is easier to manage/move). Cant comment about comparing to other more recent cabs.

I still think they sound great

Discussion includes the heavy weight of the xlt cabs. If your pockets are deep enough, carbon fiber cabs from GR are ultralight. Mine sounds awesome -- and I'm an Eden guy from way back. Still, the GR I have (the 112) has a much more transparent sound than the Eden EX112 I own. I used to use a pair of EX112 4 ohm cabs stacked for rock gigs. I don't play bar gigs any more, but the GR managed to fill a medium-sized theater for a production of The Prom.

I used Eden cabs extensively about ten years ago, and always regret selling them. I moved on to Aguilar, and now to Barefaced and Accugroove. I don't miss the weight of those cabs, but man, they had a great sound. I've actually been thinking about buying a used 410XLT (or XST, if I can find one) to pair with my WT400 and keep in a rehearsal space.

The D210XLT was my favorite cabinet for years, until my back cried, "Uncle". Funny, I considered it "light weight" after my D410T. How things have changed.
It is a great full range cab, IMHO.

I still have my D210T and my D210XLT. Wonderful sounding cabs even by today’s standards.

But…. Enormously heavy for what they are by today’s standards, too. And the drivers are many years discontinued so they’re functionally irreplaceable.

I love my Eden 210s but I just replaced them a few months ago with a pair of Baer 112s which are lighter, louder and handle more power. With a slight EQ boost at around 450Hz I can get very close to the Eden tone at nearly half the weight. I’ll be putting my Edens up for sale locally pretty soon.

I have a (2X) XLT410 stack that is pretty cool. I also have Mesa Subway 210 cabs (2) and Mesa Subway 115 cabs (2) which are awesome. I keep the Edens because I already own them but the Mesas see more and more use. They are clearer sounding compared to the Edens. I used to own a plethora of Eden cabs including a D210. I didn't care for that cab too much. If I could only keep one of my current cabs it would be a Subway 210. If i could keep two I would add a Subway 115. IMO if you were to start looking at the newer lightweight cabs available and demo some, you would not look at the XLT Edens anymore. Yes they are expensive but so is physical therapy....

I used Eden cabs back in the day, the D410T's. They sounded great but they were quite heavy. The XLT's were even heavier. I also owned a 210 XST, which had a fairly pronounced mid scoop to the sound, which wasn't what I was looking for. For me, they were great at the time but I think newer cabs likely have a better combination of weight/size/power handling, but newer cabs also tend to be more expensive.

Still own 2 x 210XST cabs. Love the sound but they are just too heavy for me to lug around these days with a not-so-young back. I'm thinking I will soon let them go for cheap so as to keep that Eden low end humming along.

I had a pair of XLT 2x10s for a while but there were two things I didn't like about them: 1) their weight. They are unreasonably heavy. 2) their lumpy frequency response. I think they were a good response to the SWR cabs back in the day, but I found them to be anything but flat, so in EQ'ing my bass and effects, I had no confidence that the FOH was getting the same thing. I later went to Acme. These days, I'm using Genzler Bass Array cabs and they are light, loud, and have a much smoother frequency response.
