Does your bass collection have a theme?

Nope...no theme here.

I know mine does and would like to hear others. Some people might choose different sounds, maybe just color, number of strings, whatever. The theme to my collection is to have all the standards. I know that might be a bit subjective, but this is how I see it. I have MIA Fender P, MIA Fender J, Hofner Viola Bass, and a RIC 4003. To wrap it up, I'm thinking I'll have to add a Gibson Thunderbird and a Musicman Stingray. Does that complete the theme? :) And do you have a theme to your collection?

Well, considering that all five of my basses are 5-string fretted P-style, I would say 'yes'. :p

The pickups vary, but all have P-bass bodies. :bassist:

My theme is the one bass I play 99% of the time and then the others that I can't get rid of because I'm either too sentimental or too much of a hoarder ("hey I can't get rid of X, someday I might need one of those!).

I go back and forth between being very happy about my small collection and being a little stressed because it's too much stuff.

Variety ( some day I'll take a pic of them.. but I think my wife would get upset if she ever saw them in the same room.... and could count them.)

4 string acoustic fretted
4 string acoustic fretless
2 x 80's ibanez roadsters
80's Washburn B20
Fender Geddy Jazz
MIM Jazz Fretless
Retrovibe Vantage ( think Jazz/Rick combo ) 4 string fretted.
Dean 8 string fretted
Brice 8 string fretless
Dean 12 string fretted
( once slot left for a fretless 12 ) will be getting rid of one Ibanez roadster

edit... forgot an epiphone Thunderbird in there.

I bring 3 basses per gig. Fretless Jazz ALWAYS goes and is used for about 1/2 of the songs. Fretted 4 for part of the night and some sort of 8 or 12 string for a handful of songs. The only bass that I haven't played live in years is the Washburn B20. I like having VERY different basses and really have fun playing them all. Heck, I usually play 2-3 basses at one nights practice. For me, it's part of the fun.

My first bass was a '82 MIA Bullet.

My second was a '12 p-bass.

My third ended up being a '92 p-bass deluxe plus.

I guess at this point, my theme is any bass made in a year ending in "2". I could see either a '72 or '02 jazz in my future... the wife can't though.

Fender MIA Jazz Bass Std with p/j pickups
Fender MIJ Precision Bass Lyte with p/j pickups
Squier Jaguar Bass with p/j pickups short scale
Warwick MIG Corvette std
Warwick MIG Corvette std short scale

I thought i had a theme but nope got ruined with the Warwicks! :)

Maybe I should start a short scale theme as those are the ones I play most anyway

The basses I have kept were all working basses that I played for more than five years. They each became extensions of me and were very personal tools. I bonded with each. Many other basses have come and gone. Some of the vintage sixties stuff that I bought for under $400 in the 70's should have stayed.
