Does your bass collection have a theme?

Maybe ... black'n'maple, passive, 4 strings.

I don't think I have one theme, but rather a selection of preferences that span the collection, which in turn is put together to cover my needs. Those preferences are:
  • 4 strings (in balanced tension sets)
  • Black opaque or brown wood finish
  • Not too heavy
  • DGCF tuning
  • Function before exclusivity
Besides that, these are the functions I need:
  • Play unplugged (AEB)
  • The sound of fretless
  • Short scale for playing by the desk
  • Active bass
  • Passive bass
  • P bass sound
  • Flats sound
  • Roundwound sound
The basses below cover all the bases within my preferences (the theme, if you like)

I guess the theme would be versatility; I see them as tools in a toolbox, different sounds, uses. I have 1 each:Fender P-bass, Jazz bass, PJ bass, EBMM Stingray, Epi T-Bird, 5 string Warwick STD. I do like the visual variation, I mainly got the t-Bird for visual reason (a Cure tribute band, Simon Gallup well known for playing T-Birds), my Fenders get the most play currently. I could see getting some other iconic instruments down the line (a Rick, a violin bass, a Gibson of some sort).

Great thread topic.

I'd have to go with "Nothing Over A Grand." I might also have to go with "Done." While I do occasionally suffer from bouts of GAS (thanks, TB!), in the last few years, I've managed to cull my herd down to a manageable number that works for what I do. I no longer find myself saying "If only I had a [insert brand/model/color here]."
