Double Bass Don't look at me

Damon Rondeau was the guy who came out of left field in my 'Thoughtful Policing' thread that went out of his way to insult me and my profession. Chris would not MOD his off-topic insults. So the results are I leave TB and Damon Rondeau get rewarded and promoted to Mod status..

What a fucxxxg dog and pony show you guys have turned this into.

oK.. Let's see if you have the balls to let this stay up and allow all the TBers to read my response..

Paul JUST deleted this (2x now) BUT this thread is about me leaving and this was one of the main reasons. Go ahead and shut me up.. Ban me.. I have a job and a life.. TB was fun but not a 'mat' for anyone.. Sry guys.. Bad call made here and it wasn't by me..

Speak of Thought Police.. Give out some more badges to the offenders why don't you!

Sorry for my absence from this thread. Let's get this all out in the open. Ken Smith posted the above post on page 2 of this thread. I deleted it, as it's a violation of our usage agreement. He posted the same thing again, I PM'ed him asking him to not bash moderators, or members publicly. He posted it a third time. At this point I felt I was forced to disable posting ability on his account.

The "Thought Police OR Thoughtful Policing" thread, which Ken is referencing, is now deleted (was deleted by Ken Smith, the thread starter). It contained a lot of heated posts directed at TB moderators, and decisions they make. The thread was allowed to exist even though it violated our forum rules, to air out the laundry, so to speak. As someone posted in that thread:

Since we voice our thoughts in public I don't see the harm in airing out in public either.

Well, that's what happened, and some users, including Damon, had some laundry to air. I accept the fact that that thread existed 'outside the rules' and take responsibility for what went down. I'm not proud of that thread in general, and it really reinforced, in my mind, why I like to field mod and policy disputes privately with all concerned parties. That thread played a large roll in Francois' decision to scale back his duties. Chris described that thread better than I am, here's a quote from his earlier post

Although such discussions are against the rules Paul set out for talkbass (see rule #5 under the "Rules" link above), both moderators and Paul allowed the thread to stay open because the general consensus was that it might be good *just once* to "air out grievances". As was completely foreseeable, grievances were aired out in all directions - against the moderators, against some of the long time members, against the intent of Paul's forum rules, and ultimately (and again, foreseeably) against the thread starter himself

Damon Rondeau has been an exemplary TB'er for the past 5 years and 1500 posts. Anyone here can tell you that. He's been recommended to serve as a moderator more than once over the past year, and I didn't hesitate to contact him when Francois sent me his decision. I stand by my decision to hire Damon, in fact I think he's more qualified to moderate DB than I would be.

Ken Smith has been told he's welcome to come back any time, I only ask that he abide by our website's terms of use, and not continue to post any slams against any moderator or member publicly. So far he's unwilling to comply. I hope this changes in the future.

And now you know...the rest of the story:

JR shot JR. And all this time we thought it was Kristen Shepard :eyebrow:

Am I the only dude here that doesn't get it? Is this like a 70's TV joke or something?

Well, early 80s. It's from "Dallas." You may know it from the homage made by the Simpsons, with the "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" cliffhanger from one season to the next.

Who did shoot JR? Was it Sue Ellen? I know Maggie Simpson shot Mr. Burns...but it was accidental. Or was it?

Hmmm... I'm fifty and I feel young. Maybe if I'd chosen an office job early on, I'd feel older. I think "The Judge" is my musical role model.

BTW... the next project on the table for Gypsy Pacific will be a CD of TV themes, done Django style... we were meeting last night, just crackin' up at the possibilities. Working title.."The Boob Tube".

When I have conversations on the phone or in person with the folks I have interacted with on TBDB I'm struck by how interesting, diverse and engaging those conversations are. ALL of the regular contributors I have had discussions with are people I have learned much from and found to be interesting personalities. I am touched by peoples artistry and dedication---even when they are just bitching.

These recent clashes of perspective, ego, and misunderstanding have led to lots of innuendo and insult flying about in all directions that I think are in part deserved and in part undeserved.

I've been joking and playing around this stuff hoping it will go away but it's not.

At this point I'm asking everyone to chill, to stop the bashing and insults and innuendo. There is a little bit of good in everyone and little bit of bad. Like every single relationship in our lives we must accept the bad with the good, learn to enjoy the excellent and forgive the shortcomings.

I'd like to see more live and let live at this point and get back to discussing the stuff that brought us here in the first place.

Amen. Merry Christmas, everyone. :)
