Wow, super exciting! I'm hoping my second build will be a 7 string guitar for my twin brother - using the leftover cutout from my bass build neck billet to keep the twin theme strong.

Can't wait to see how these pan out.

There's a lot of different methods for keeping the fretboard lined up, from what I've seen.

I pulled the pins after the clamps were tightened, and before the glue started drying. I had a couple of them break off in the pickup routes when I used them to line up the tops to the bodies because they're very thin and break kind of easily.

Yup! However, I really like the pin idea as opposed to the cut nail reference under the board or nails in the waste area as reference points. I know there are plenty of other methods, but there is something efficient and clean about using the fret slots.

Yesterday was neck shaping day. It took me 8 hours, but I got them both done. I'm pretty tired today so far.

Yeah, I used a shinto for most of the shaping, then cleaned it up with a spokeshave, scraper, and sandpaper. No issues with the wenge.

Glad to hear the Shinto worked well. I am a fan, but was a little concerned regarding the wenge, since I haven't shaped it before. I am also keen to try a spokeshave out, although I am happy with the combo of Shinto/dragon rasps/scrapers for the process.

Yeah, a spokeshave isn't necessary. I wish I could get mine setup so it doesn't constantly need to be de-clogged (the wood shavings build up and have to be forced out every couple of minutes, I'm sure this isn't normal).

It can be difficult, I struggled for a while finding the time to build jigs, it always felt like it was time I could have spent on the current builds! But I was always grateful for them on the following instruments. I quite enjoy sharpening and tuning hand tools though.

Same here. I'm going to be buying a house soon if I can manage to find one (!) and setting up a basement workshop, so maybe I can make a point of tools and jigs being the first thing I do once the shop is setup so everything is all ready to go when I start the next build.

question...what is your finish neck thickness....before fingerboard>?....just curious

For my fast / Thin Necks...I have a finished neck thickness of 17-18mm....(truss rod thickness is 9.5mm (LMI)).. FB wood is 8-9 mm....for a total thickness of @27mm...or just over 1.06"
