Another great video! I must commend your use of safety gear - gloves, ear and eye protection, long sleeves, mask - you should see me when I work - flip flops, tank tops, and when I remember, I'll wear my safety glasses.

Haha, thanks. I get skin reactions to sawdust, so that's why I wear gloves now. Long sleeves were mostly for the weather, but they definitely help keep the sawdust off my arms too.

Well, I got the control cavities and covers done.

The jack holes went a lot faster with the corded drill too. A LOT faster.

Thank you! I will try to have the next video up next week, but it depends on if I am able to get all of the woodworking done before then with Mother's Day and getting ready to throw a baby shower (and making a clock for the gift) mixed into this weekend.

Sorry to resurrect my thread without a real update.

That "Next episode in 2 weeks" at the end of my last video was apparently written in high hopes. I haven't been able to work on the guitars the last couple of weeks, but I think I should be able to get back to it this weekend. I should only have a couple more days worth of woodworking left on them.

A few notes I felt like sharing while I wait to get back to building:

-When I drilled the jack holes, I measured the body thicknesses, and if I remember right I think they are only 1-3/8" thick. So these are the thinnest bodies I've made. Glad there's no pre-amp or anything going in them.

-Someone talked me into trying out electroform stickers for my headstock logos and serial numbers, so I have those on order. I took a week or two obsessively making like 20-30 logos until I finally decided on one. I'm excited to see how they turn out.

-I still can't find the nuts for these guitars. Where could they have gone??? I did find my protractor and 1/4" top bearing router bit which had been "missing" for a while. They both turned out to be under a heap of sawdust that built up in the drawer of the workbench.

-I don't think I'm going to end up doing that black fade on the myrtle guitar. I just keep thinking that I shouldn't cover up the myrtle at all.

-I am searching for a house to buy where I can make a basement workshop. I know that I'll have to take some time off in between guitar/bass builds in order to make the shop, but I'm hoping I'll be able to be a lot more productive once it's up and running.

I did something yesterday.

Cleaned up all the epoxy/sawdust mixes and routed the neck pockets. The blue tape is for marking center lines without marking on the wood and the yellow tape is where the bridges will go. String thru holes and bridge screw holes are marked.

I haven't taken photos yet, because it's not very exciting stuff, but I got the magnets in (and super-glued some to my fingers), and I drilled the string thru holes, bridge, and strap button (pilot) screw holes. I'll most likely get the necks glued in this week and aside from that, I have the following left to do before putting finish on:

-Shape heels
-Clean up the pickup routes (necks will be extended into neck pickup route, so that needs to be routed down and the corners need to be sharper)
-Route the areas where the nuts are going
-Drill the rest of the screw holes (pickups and tuners)
-Drill the string ferrule holes
-Make the truss rod covers
-Finish sanding/polishing the frets
-Finish sanding the wood

I think that's it.

I got picture proofs of my electroform decals and they look good, they said they should ship today, so I think they'll arrive in time to not slow down the finishing process.

I think the katalox chipped out easily when I was routing the edges of the fretboard, so that scared me a bit, but it all turned out fine in the end. I think it was easier to work with than some other woods, but it is a hard wood at the same time. Either way, I like it. I'm glad I chose to use it for this one and I really like how it looks.

Thanks for subbing! I will keep an eye on yours too. I use a Canon t3i, most of this series is shot with my 50mm f/1.8 lens because it's the cheapest one and I don't want sawdust on my other lenses, and I have to just set the camera up on a tripod and put a rain/dust cover over the camera (which only works so well). I use Final Cut Pro 7 for editing.

They are electroform metal stickers and the detail is amazing. A guy on tdpri told me that he was going to order a test sheet and talked me into trying it too. His has some extremely small print on it (I'm talking "Made in USA" and "Custom Guitars" that are like 2 mm tall) and they are amazingly clear and legible.

If you go to the link above, there's an email address listed and you can just send them an email with your logos, serial numbers, etc on an A4 sheet and tell them what color you want and they'll have you pay through paypal. It took about 2 weeks to get mine - 1 week production, 1 week shipping (from China).

The colors I got were black nickel and rose gold.

I don't think I'm going to try completely burying it under finish like the waterslides. I like the idea of it being slightly proud of the surface since it doesn't have any outlying plastic or anything. I think I'll just put some tung oil over the top, since that's the finish I'm using for these guitars, and see how it turns out.

I think I included a serial number for my fretless guitar on the sheets, so I might try it out on that one (without finish on top) before the 7 strings.
