Not really much to tell about the new band right now. It's the exact same lineup as one of our previous bands, but with different music and I'm playing bass instead of guitar this time. We had written a bunch of riffs over the past few months, then suddenly scrapped them all and started over, so we're back at the beginning and it'll probably be a while before we have anything listen-able.
I didn't have as much time over the weekend as I thought I might to work on the shop, but I did a couple little things - vacuumed what I could get to (around the tools/boxes that are in there) and assembled a mobile base for the bandsaw. I'll try to get a little done during the week, then I think I should probably have time this weekend to do more. The moving process is obviously taking up a lot of time.
I now have a planer, jointer, miter saw, and 2 hp dust collector. Each of those except the miter saw will be on wheels, as well as the bandsaw. Luckily the jointer and planer look like they have very little assembly required - a knob or two and the dust ports to attach. I'm assuming the miter saw is the same, but haven't opened it yet. The dust collector is in a few pieces, but looks like it should be easy. I'm going to hook up my dust deputy to the collector to make it 2 stage.
The jointer is only 40 lbs so I should be able to get that up on the stand and setup by myself, I'll probably need help with getting the bandsaw and planer on stands, so those are more dependent on when someone has time to help, but I could always get everything else going while I wait.
I'm going to make the workbenches. I have butcher block top pieces that a guy I know gave me. He works at a furniture company and someone special ordered them, then cancelled the order and the company just let him take like 20 boards, he gave me half. They're a little more narrow than a standard workbench, but I think they will actually work out well for me - a little wider than a guitar/bass body. One of the benches will be a peninsula and I'm going to make the frame in a way that is easy to attach clamps to. Overall I'm planning to have 2 "full" size and 2 half size workbenches. The half sizes will just be stands for the lathe and drill press.
I got some metal pegboards so I can hang most of my hand tools instead of packing them in drawers.
I'll explain the rest later as I do it.

The gloves - I wish I didn't have to wear them, but my skin is sensitive to sawdust. Boo. If I can get the dust collector rigged up to catch the dust from the router, I might be able to ditch the gloves.
I am beyond happy to not have to work in the cold though! Or heat for that matter.
Router table time! I've seen some setups that will collect most of the dust now with top and bottom collectors.
New shop day! I'm dying to see how you organize your space. I have a small shop too with stuff squirreled away into every nook and cranny. Now where did I put that 1/2" round over bit?
I haven't figured out exactly where I'm going to keep my bits yet, but I think I'm going to drill some holes (shank sized) in a board to sit all the router bits in one place and mostly likely do the same for drill bits.
I'm looking forward to seeing how many tools I can fit on the pegboards.
Next thing to figure out is wood storage.
This could be tricky. Basements in the north are often cool and damp. You'd better do some measurements on the level of humidity.

The guitars are looking great! IMO the don't need much in the way of finishing, maybe some oil or shellac, and clear.

I have a finished basement on Cape Cod, which is basically a sandbar that drains surface water almost immediately, but I still have to run my dehumidifier year round to keep it from getting musty down there. I don't don't have a drain handy to pipe it to, so I end up having to schlep the water reservoir up the stairs every other day. Thank god for young sons with strong backs. Congrats on the new house and shop space. If you have a floor drain you can pipe the dehumidifier into, that would be ideal.

Thanks! They're just going to get some Minwax tung oil, so I'm hoping it will be a fairly quick and easy process. Still have a few woodworking things and finishing up the frets to do before that. I cannot wait.
I have a utility sink in the laundry room across the hall from the shop. I'm thinking I'll put the dehumidifier in the hallway in between and run a hose to the sink.

Congrats Lisa, I am going through the mortgage process myself. Though My shop will stay where its at, its going to be nice to have a garage to do some work at home. I am hoping to close by the middle of September.

This closing process is a headache isn't it? I am actually going to be moving closer to my shop 45 minutes instead of an hour and a half so that will be very nice.
