Down the rabbit hole again - Project 4350

Today's plan was to work from 8am to around 2, then get home and do some guitar routing.

DO NOT MENTION ROUTERS TO ME.

Because, you know, there I am, routing out the rebates for a set of double doors (they need to be rebated pairs if you're doing it professionally, complete with a rebate latch adapter set) and I'm on the final trim cut and the $85 Trend cutter lets go. One of the carbides completely sheared off. God alone knows where the shrapnel went. The router goes out of balance. Imagine the mess on a $700 polished oak door. I was very lucky that the face of the door was undamaged but I'm going to have to fill and veneer the rebate. This job is already two days over schedule. My laborer is going to make more than I am from this mission. So, I am done with woodworking for today. And tomorrow I have to do it all again. Oh, and you bet I'll be contacting Trend USA tomorrow morning.

I'm feeling mean.

In fact, I may spend Valentine's Day sitting outside a restaurant drinking red wine from the bottle and yelling at random couples as they go inside "WELL DAMN BOY DIDN'T YOU MOVE ON QUICKLY".

Also, as far as sustain goes on a bass, it's a nice indication of good construction, but given that, as players, we dedicate hours of our woodshedding to left and right hand muting techniques, I'd question its validity as a measure of "how good is that bass?".
I always wonder when someone touts the sustain of their bass. Can’t remember when I’ve ever played anything longer than than a half note in an actual song.

Sending deepest router condolences.

Still got 10 fingers? Yes? It was a good day. Don’t get bogged down by a botched door.

I won’t pass judgement on whatever you choose to do with that bottle of wine, however.
10 fingers, two eyes. It's just really frustrating when equipment fails. Especially expensive equipment. The door itself is an easy rescue. Polyester filler > shoulder plane > contact cement > veneer > trim.

But, I only had the one cutter. I can't get another until tomorrow. So, it's put me behind. Anyway, heck with it, and GO RAMS.

Here ya go.

Feel free to pour it down the toilet and refill with something decent before taking up your heckling spot.

I believe that mind-blowing sustain is a requirement for Birdland (Weather Report) but I'm pretty sure that's electronics, not instrument. And very few bands are equipped to or dare to try and cover that tune.

I value percussive attack over sustain. You just can't fake that attribute no matter how hard you try. The bass either has it, or it doesn't. Good examples of percussive attack? Stingray, Ibanez RS900.

So it's a new day, is it too soon? :smug: :woot:

Okay, I gotta tell you this story. :roflmao:
I'm driving to work this morning, listening to this radio show bit that I enjoy (because it makes me laugh), it's called "The First Date Follow-up". They have people who went on a first date and then got ghosted call them, give them the date details, then they call the person who ghosted them to find out why. This girl calls in (may have been you, I'm not sure) and says she went to a coffee shop with this guy. During the date she saw this gal outside in the parking lot that she had beef with. She excuses herself from the date, goes out front and throws hands with this gal. Then comes back in, sits down like nothing happened and finishes the date....and she's not sure if that's why the guy ghosted her or not. :roflmao:  :roflmao:
The best part, they get the guy on the phone (part of the bit is that the guy has no clue the girl is listening on the other line) and he says "Yeah man, she went out front and got her butt kicked, it was horrible. Like 'one-two' and she was down. This gal straight beat her up. I can't be with a girl that can't protect herself like that." :roflmao:  :roflmao:

It was the perfect Valentine's Day story. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Wasn't me.

I'd have used a melee weapon.

Or, as in any number of bad action films, use a nailgun that has somehow been left around a construction site with all the various safety devices to prevent you from using it like a... gun...disabled. Magically.

I was gratified to see that Lisbeth Salander (as played by the Badass Noomi Rapace, and upon whom I have a crush) in the Dragon Tattoo movies, actually depresses the nose piece as she nails the giant bad guy's feet to the floor.

On older designs you can actually hold the nose back and fire it like a gun, but anything more than two feet away is just going to get annoyed at you. They're not as dangerous as people imagine. (Source: Me, who has shot myself in the hand several times)
