Dr. Bass BL1580 and BL1260 rig

Although I've not played the Aguilar, I would say definitely yes.
GS112 uses one 300w driver while the 2460 uses two 500w woofers plus the mid and tweeter.

A GS112 stack would be two (or more) GS112.
The DrBass site doesn't give sensitivity figures (I suppose because of different drivers available).

Not trying to be a killjoy or know-it-all, but unless you've played both specific cabs, it's all just speculation.

Also, max power handling tells you absolutely nothing about sensitivity.

What amplification did you use, if I may ask? Also, did you feel that either speaker could have held the small/medium small room by themselves?

GK 1001RBII. And I've been using my 1580 all by it's lonesome for a month or two now. I play mostly small/medium size rooms during the fall and winter and spring. The 1580 paired with the GK is more than enough for my gigs. The 1260/1580 stack will be great in the summer for outdoor gigs.

Nice looking stack there, Eric. Now why didn't I think of the slant faced 1260?? :hmm:

Two cabinets is what I based my "speculation" on.

Yes it does. 101db 1w1m

I qualified my remark as speculation by stating that I had not played the Gs112 and was basing my response on the published specs.
BTW, the poster invited speculation when he asked the question in this manner:
"Do you guys think the Dr. Bass 2460 cab would have better power handling /volume than an Aguilar GS112 stack?"

Also, max power handling tells you absolutely nothing about sensitivity
Right, but he also asked about power handling, so two GS112s (per specs) would handle 600w while the 2460 would handle 1000w (per specs).

I'm very conscientious about disclosing my own knowledge or lack of experience with any gear that I discuss. IMO there are far too many non pro, bedroom players giving loads of advice around here when the only bass equipment they ever owned is a Crate combo and a Bullet bass. That's why I made clear that I had not played a GS112 stack and that my response was based on the published specs of both cabs.

I stand by my "speculation" that the loudness between the two rigs is probably minimal but the 2460 might be perceived by the ear as having a tad more than the GS stack simply due to more cone area. But common sense tells me that a cab with1000w speakers will handle more power than two cabs with 300w speakers in them, especially if all drivers in question are from the same manufacturer.

Right, but he also asked about power handling, so two GS112s (per specs) would handle 600w while the 2460 would handle 1000w (per specs).

Points well taken.

I only responded because it looked (to me) like you were comparing one 12" driver to 2x12"+1x6"+1hf drivers.
I couldn't find DrBass specs, but I'll take your word for it.

Speculate on...(btw, one of my favorite passtimes).

AHA! You were speculatin' that I was speculatin'.... I get it now!

The Dr Bass sensitivity spec is rather inconspicuous. Look right after it says 40Hz to 20Hz:

This is our #1 selling cabinet by far. There is nothing on the market that offers this much tone and value. etc..........
2460
1000 watts RMS 3-way cabinet
2x12 woofers, 150 watt 6.5" mid w/compression horn
Hand wired 800 watt X-over w/Mid and HF level controls

40HZ to 20kHz 101 Db 1W1M

4 or 8 ohms
24.25"h x 20.75"w x 15"d
67 lbs.
$559.00

Oh, and I could be wrong about the perceived volume. I really don't know..

Played first gig with the 1580/1260 stack last night. So far, I'm liking what I'm hearing. This was a semi outdoor party actually held in a huge tent ( you know those nice white rental tents with sides and doors. I believe it was three tents combined with plywood laid down for flooring. A very nice catered affair but it turned cold down here last nite)

I brought the whole stack just because I could. Ordinarily I think I would've used the 1580 alone but I wanted to try out both cabs. My intent was to experiment with using each cab alone during the course of the night but never got around to doing it, so it was the full stack all night. In all fairness, I must say that all the gear used is relatively new to me so a direct comparison to my previous rig(s) is difficult. My go-to Jazz is down right now for some pot replacement so I used the recently acquired Lakland Duck Dunn with rounds and my new LM II which I'm still getting used to.

My intent is to string the Dunn with flats and use the Jazz with rounds for my regular gigs. Combined with my 700RB it would be easier to review the cabs with a bass and amp with known (to me) characteristics. The stack was strong, punchy, clean and mixed with the band very well. I fiddled with the mid and high attenuators on the cabs and ended up with the Hr at -1 1/2 db and MR at 0db on the 1260. The 1580 seemed a little midrange forward to my ears using the bass and amp above, so I ended up dialing the HR down to -2db and the MR at -1db.
I felt a little bass boost was in order on the LM II to achieve a good, deep tone.

I'll be experimenting with them individually and with my Jazz /GK combination over the next few days.
One thing I think I'm going to like is the 1260 as a standalone for lower volume gigs. I've stated before that, until now, I haven't played a compact 1x12 that doesn't fart out when you throw a little juice at it. Listening up close to the 1260, it sounded very strong and showed no sign of being overdriven even at a fairly hearty volume level.

All in all, I was happy with what I heard and think that I'll be diggin' this rig when I get used to all the other gear...
More to come......

Oh BTW, Dr Bass has started using two Neutrik combo jacks instead of the typical 1/4" pair + Speakon pair. Marc told me that would be stock (I guess on all models).

I've got an Accugroove Whappo Jr. in a road case that is just too big and heavy for the duo work I'm doing these days. I've been considering some sort of single 12 2 way or 3 way lighter alturnative. Of course there is the tri112 from AC but I'm thinken the Dr. Bass 1260 might do just as good. Has anybody tried the Beyma speakers they are now offering? They are like $200 more for a single 12 :/

Well lookee here: Link Removed

BTW, no affiliation with the seller. But may be worth checking out.
I wouldn't own a 4 ohm cab only capable of handling 350W. Plus, he makes it sound as if it was custom voiced for his amp... not sure what that means, but it sounds like an oddball cab.

Anyone had any experience with the 112LF? I'm toying with the idea of putting one underneath an epifain ul210. I need a little more volume for small gigs but I'm also looking for more mid punch and depth. A good match? Any comments on the tone/performance of the 112LF would be welcome.

Man, I tell ya. Just played two shows with just the 1260. Thought I'd try the little bugger all by himself. These were not super loud affairs, but at the same time I've always brought either a 1x15 or two 1x12's to these venues.

The little bugger kicked butt! Sounded suprisingly loud and ballsy. I did not need more than the 1260, and had quite a bit of headroom on both my amp (GK1001RBII) and the cab.

Two of the 1260's would be a stupid loud mini stack! Hmmmmmmmmmmm........:help:

A single 1260 NEO was my Rock-and-roll rig all year this year (and most of last year too) - Always enough and great tone. I got a great deal on a used 2460 NEO, so I'm working on getting rid of the 1260 - BUT not because it was inadequate in any way whatsoever.

What a GREAT solution in a 40 pound package. I've got some pictures of our band that are just ludicrous when looking at the guitarist's half stack and the rhythm guy's 2x12...the bass rig looks TINY :D But it still kicks major butt - and my load-in, load-out makes the band jealous every single time. :smug:

Jay, I don't doubt it! Mines got the regular 500 watt LF speaker in it. Delta LF, I think? Weighs around 50 lbs. Maybe a little less.

Tonight I'm bringing the 1580 with me to a NYE gig. It's an unknown club, and my philosophy is that a big cab can play quiet better than a small cab can play really loud!

It's pretty cool how much 1580 and 1260 sound alike. My settings on both cabs are the same: Mid control all the way up and the tweeter at around 10:00. It'd be fun to try the Dr. Bass 2x10x6.

Waking this thread up. Those Dr.Bass cabs were seriously good. I owned several. I still have a BL1260 and BL112 sub stack, with 3012LFs, that I think are pretty incredible.

Regardless of all the fallout that happened after this thread was in existence, the man knew what he was doing on bass cab design back then.

I used to stack a 2460 atop a 1580, driven by a Carvin B1500. They've all been on a shelf for a long time; I am tempted to pull them out and give them a listen, but the combined weight gives me pause these days. ;)
