Dr. Scientist Reverbrator or IE Nimbus?

Hey guys, been doing some research... as I do... & am not sure which to go with. I like them both. Any experience with either? I read the Nimbus threads here but just thought I'd ask again while I was at it. Both seem like great options.

i had a few weeks with a Dr. Sci RRR and i have an IE Nimbus. the RRR has more tones it can do, the Nimbus is more geared towards bass, so while it doesn't cover as much ground, everything it does is crazy good for bass.

When I was playing my fretless at home I loved the Reverberator. It's a bit sweeter, has more options and is just a fantastic sounding reverb.

Playing live in a mixI preferred the Nimbus. It's easier to dial in and adjust on the fly, sounds nearly as good and what little subtle differences exist disappear in a band context. Most of all, the filter control allows you to keep the lows clean which goes a long way to not muddying up the sound.

Both are fantastic reverbs on guitar and bass. But essentially for guitar I'd recommend the Dr. Scientist but on bass I'd very much recommend the Nimbus. This is of course, me being as objective as possible. If I'm being subjective about it, I'd choose the Nimbus in every instance. While I've had nothing but positive interactions with Ryan at Dr. Scientist and I dig his work and wish him success, I feel a huge amount of loyalty to Taylor and want to choose his products whenever I can. Just thought I'd add that in as a disclosure.

yah. that's one of the things that makes IE pedals so interesting. they do all (except maybe the multi eq distortion, but there IS a bass one) seem to really keep low end interaction in mind. good stuff coming out of there.

Just for additional data, the Abovegroundfx "The Venue" reverb also has a low-cut filter for bass usage, and it sounds really good--though I have not A/B'ed it with a Nimbus. I got one in a trade a while ago, and I like it well enough that I haven't felt any urge to change it out.

I owned a Bluesky, now have the Nimbus. The low-cut on the Bluesky does make it very usable on bass and the various modes all sound awesome. Ultimately, I like that the Nimbus has about half the capital tied up and is set up so just about every single setting possible is good for bass. For a simple reverb on bass, I can't think of anything better. For more in depth use something like the Bluesky or Eventide Space is probably a good investment.

You can also add in the new Source Audio Dimension Reverb in that group. Has a low cut and works very nicely with bass, though more complicated than the Nimbus.

Thanks guys, I'm still torn for different reasons......

The Nimbus can pretty much come in whatever color you choose from my understanding. It will however cost you a little more, $10 - $30 roughly for some particular colors. If you email him he'll explain the options & cost involved.

I used to own an EHX Cathedral, but swapped it for a Nimbus a while back, mainly for size purposes. The Nimbus is good (it has a better sounding algorithm to my ears - at least for longer reverbs), but I'm seriously considering replacing it with the new SA reverb. I use very long decay times, and I find myself missing a high cut on the Nimbus - it can get a littly hissy IMO.

The Cathedral has a decent dampening filter, but also a lot of features that I didn't need in a house that was just too big for my pedal board.

The Source Audio one appears to have very good dampening/filter options, which I like, and the ability to store two different presets also really appeals to me.

that's mah Nimbus. i hate purple (the og color Nimbus comes in) and i needed one quick, so Dano ( [email protected] ) pimped mine into ridiculousness.
