Dressing for the stage

Church services - all black. Black button down, black pants, black shoes, black undershirt, black socks, black belt (with the buckle rotated to my left hip), dark brown strap (yes, I need a black one). The idea is to disappear into the black backdrop
Fun gigs - Dark jeans, black tennis shoes, bright T-shirt under a hawaiian/bright flowery shirt (which my daughter selects for me).

Definitely depends on the situation.... This was a small coffee shop gig:

But seriously folks - I own a tux, a white dinner jacket with black pants, a full on set of black tails, crazy colored long sleeved and short sleeved shirts with satin or other materials - all for the show. Whatever feels right for that gig, or following the requirements of the show - I'm in there.

I auditioned for one music school wearing a ripped tshirt... and I got in. I auditioned for another one wearing a full suit.... and I didn't get in.

Depends a lot on the type of band and how old you are.
I've pretty much defaulted to a snazzy vintage-style sports/suit jacket over an open-neck shirt and black slim-profile pants in recent years - with a jacket, you look a little better than the audience, disguises any belly bulge, and you have somewhere to keep picks, drink tickets, matchbooks and napkins with phone numbers written on them in lipstick, snacks, and the mega-bucks you'll be earning.

I'd like to up my game with my stage look. How do you guys dress for the stage? Any pictures? Where do you shop? Obviously it will be very different for different types of bands. Pictures would be great.
Funny, I actually have an answer for that. I shop at Buckle a lot for stage clothes - the jeans there are a bit more rock & roll there than you find elsewhere, and they have a nice selection of button-down shirts that have aggressive designs and fit well.

I do dress according to where we're playing. There's one club downtown in Denver that is small, cramped, hot, and runs an early 20s hipster crowd. In there I wear stylish jeans and a T-shirt, maybe a beanie in the winter. Because that's what the patrons are wearing, or maybe a little nicer.

Another bar is more suburban, upscale, cougar bar frankly. The patrons are better dressed in there and therefore so am I. Jeans or black slacks and a nicer shirt. Here's a promo video from that club:

Similar vibe in this (different) originals group, but a little more relaxed. I remember being hot this night and wishing I'd worn something stretchier.

These guys sold 12 million of their first album, so maybe take a note from them?

When you sell 12 million albums you can get away with dressing like that. If I see a band in a club dressed like that it says to me "naw, I really don't care ". If the entertainment doesn't care what the audience thinks of them the audience likely won't care (about the band) either.
