BMW's 5 and 7 series and Mercedes S class are the Ford Taurus' of Southern California. If you want to turn heads at a gig, you'd need a Bentley Cont Supersport (not that crappy GT I see everywhere). I have friend's that drive $100K+ cars that live in small 500 sqft 2K a month apartments. People here love their car payments more than a mortgage.

I'm not putting your BMW down one bit, but no one would notice it in this area. I see tons of teenage bands showing up in new Range Rovers or those Mercedes SUV's unloading gear, scratching up the hatch/tailgate.

Be carefull with getting your amp in & out of the car - my little sh!tbox car has scratches all over the insides from my amp. And consider a gig bag instead of a hard case - less likely you'll damage the car accidently.

I agree. This would be a bigger worry for me than someone else causing damage.

If you can afford an e60, you can afford a second vehicle that you can take to gigs.
I've got a vintage BMW E24 6-series 'shark' for fun and an Infiniti Coupe as my daily driver, but when's it time to hump gear I take the wife's SUV and leave her the keys to the sports car.
If you need your car to get attention for you, you're doing 'it' wrong... whatever 'it' is.

I drive my car everywhere, that's why I bought it. I dont care about scratches but odors, same with my basses, they can get scratched but not stinks.

I NEVER take my good car to a gig.... Unless i was young and trying to impress the chicks.. Im not young, and i dont need to impress the chicks. So it stays in the garage or with the GF..
I take the SUV..
But I wish i had an old honda CRX once again.. I had one in the 90s and kept it till a few years ago.. It was the best gig car ever.... You could park it anywhere even in NYC...Turned on a dime.... I could fit 4 Aggy GS112s and an SVT head in the back...

You got me thinking. If someone thinks your rich, does that give them a reason to hate you? Pretty shallow on their part.

Drive what makes you happy. Yes, you can worry about damage, but you can also be worrying about someone robbing your house while you're gigging, or getting electrocuted, or a meteor falling on the club...

It's funny how americans call a BMW an exotic, when in Europe it's pretty much the definition of banality. I'm not saying that it's wrong or that it isn't a very nice car, just a funny difference of point of view.

I don't think anyone is calling BMWs exotic cars in a broad sense. It's reasonable in any country, IMO, to think of an M5 as an exotic.

Lol..... Well, I most certainly don't think I'm "defined" by what car I drive to a gig... And, if anyone's playin' with guys/gals that's judgmental towards you for what you choose to drive, well......

Well, no matter what our personal philosophies are, our effectiveness is driven in large part by the way others perceive us. People hate that, and many spend their entire lives avoiding it as a fact. But it's no less true for them.

Anyway, the ironic thing for me is that my 545 is getting pretty old now. It's in fantastic shape, but probably worth around $14,000. Hardly an exotic.

I love BMW's. As a matter of fact I got my Geddy Jazz in trade from a Lawyer that needed an ABS/DSC module replaced. Four screws and ten minutes to recode and I had a new bass!!!!

Our acoustic guitarist drives his Range Rover to every gig. Compared to my wheels, which is a 2001 Chevy truck with a bashed in right rear quarter panel, that's a high end vehicle. He hasn't had any issues so far.

I don't have a fancy car, but if I did I would not use it for transport to and from gigs. Loading and unloading equipment from the car will ding up your car, there's no way around it.
