Drunkest Guy at the bar

Ok I got one that will creep you out. The summer between last year of high school and and college I played bass in a really shady nightclub in Athens, Greece. I am imagining most of you guys have never experienced any venue like this, but in Greece and other eastern european countries they are very common.

There is a band that plays in a bandstand and multiple singers. There is essentially 2 sets. The first set is usually something modern or original material of the singer. The second set is the party set. This is dance music, a mix of traditional and pop music.
There is different kinds of songs that are danced differently and sometimes this can be an issue.

So this place was rather shady, in the bad side of town, run by shady people. Every Friday around 3 a know mob boss would show up, always blasted(not always alcohol). So his deal was this, for everything he asked, once he got it he would give huge tips, like 500$ tips. So one night, he came in a rather bad mood. He requested the band to play a song and the personel to not allow anyone else on the dancefloor, because he wanted to dance alone.

So there was a waiter that night he was going to him every 2 minutes asking him if he wants something. They guy was a little more wasted that night and got pissed off with the waiter so he didn't tip him. The waiter complained and the guy turned around and said: "I will give the best tip I ever gave." then proceeded to take a gun out of his jacket and shoot the waiter on the foot and finally said: "there you go disability benefits for life"

True story.

Moral of the story, leave the drunkest guys alone, they are always trouble.

A couple of years ago we were playing a new bar for the first time. Small room, but decent pay. Some 50ish biker guy was wasted when we got there and didn't slow down all night. His dancing was funny at first, but then he kept getting mroe aggressive and screaming out requests right in our faces. Finally he got too close and knocked my mic stand over. I have a drink holder attached to the stand, so he spilled about 20 oz of Diet Coke all over my pedal board and our singer's pedal.

I calmly set my bass down, mid-song, and got him in a full nelson. I was about to smash his face repeatedly into the nearest hightop table when I saw my wife and her sister waving their arms and mouthing, "Nooooooo."

Man, it would've felt great to break that guy's face.

We were not asked back.

-Bunch of gals dancing, largest one decides to bolt up onto the stage and trips on a cord (of course) and takes out the guitarists amp, wireless, and effects. She just lays there and needs help getting up.

-That guy who's eyeing up my bass and decides to come up and "help me play" by smacking it. I returned the favor.

- That other guy who's so drunk he thinks he's Fred Estaire on the dance until he falls into the mic stand. Hopefully you're fast enough to dodge before you loose several teeth. I've avoided this on several occassions, so far...

- The guy who grabs your mic and starts singing. Mute switch FTW.

What a story. What song did he request?

I'd tell you the story of my current band's first gig in which there were several DGATB (and the venue was shut down weeks later in a prostitution/drug sting), but I was on pain killers and muscle relaxants after wrecking my back a week before the gig and don't remember much myself. There were some pharmacists in the audience that night who were fairly impressed I could stand up let alone play.

This was just a couple weeks ago.

First set:

We are playing our standard set fare and he announces it is his birthday. Cool, we play our slow to rock rendition of Happy Birthday for him and ask if he has a request. He asks for Poison "Something to Believe In". We do a wide variety of stuff and that song just happens to not be on the list. So we play another Poison song for him and kindly advise we don't know that song. We play one more and finish the set and take a quick 5. We get a thank you from him and he wished we knew the song.

Second set:

Guy has had what they call the 3 ducks (after a couple beers and many birthday shots). They take hollowed out mallard lawn ducks and cut a drinking hole in the beak. Fill it full of Natty Boh and if you buy and drink 3 you get a shirt. I am pretty sure they hold 2-3 beers each and he drank one on our set break and two more during our second set. Towards the end of the second set he comes up stumbling, yelling, spitting "PLAY SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN!!!!". We played Purple Rain and finished our set. During set break you could tell he was getting a little alcohol ego going on and we steered clear of him.

Third Set:

We start playing our first song and he comes up and yells again "Play SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN!!!!! It was my sisters favorite song and she is gone". Now i would have loved to play the song for him but explained we don't it again. He immediately went to the bar, got a shot of some kind of whiskey, turned around and decked some dude standing beside him for no apparent reason. We see the bartender leap over the bar (about 4.5 feet) and take the dude to the ground within a second it seemed like. Once he calmed down the dude that got punched had nothing more than a red spot they escorted him out of the bar and told his ride to take him home.

The dude was the drunkest person I have seen at a bar. Now at a concert, no, people seem to drink near death at those.

One night, as we are setting up, we notice this guy who is already drunk. The bartender says he's been there since around 5 pm. Owns the nail salon next door. Somewhere around 10 pm, he's dancing by himself, only one on the dance floor, when his pants drop down to his ankles. He keeps dancing, and then his boxers drop down to his ankles. 2 seconds later the bouncer comes out of nowhere, grabs him by the scruff of his neck, and out the door he goes backwards, not to be seen again. Everybody's laughing, we never missed a beat.

For a while in my last band, the drunkest guy at the gig was our rhythm guitar player, who also shared singing duties with me. We had just started booking larger gigs and getting decent recognition, and he decided it was party time. Always.

Most 'memorable' situation was a night we played a packed basement at a college party (a dream for a band of 21 year olds) and he got his hands on a bottle of rumpleminze and downed 3/4 of it before we played. We struggled through 4 songs with him slurring and forgetting lyrics and before the 5th song, he dropped his Les Paul and I decided it was time to pack it up. We had to toss his bottle in the woods behind his back because he wanted to finish it.

We didn't even have to kick him out. He took care of it on his own by getting arrested and sent to court appointed rehab.
