Dual pickup P basses?

+1 Fender made one as part of the Contemporary Series, too ('80s MIJ with black headstocks.)
As far as double P pickups go, I love the sound of them... especially dual reverse.
Here are mine, mostly BC Rich, but I have a de-fretted Elite II, as well.

What are those basses with the tiny strings and weird split coils? Any info?
Short scale piccolo extended range basses. I'm sorry they snuck in there... if you ignore them, they should go away.
I just stumbled on this thread and figured I'd add my 2p. Along time ago I bought an oddball Oakland 4 string neck thru with an active preamp double P setup but the electrics were trashed. I replaced them with a double P set of Alembic activators. The thing sounded awesome with that setup in it. Lots of output and cut like crazy. A month later I gave it to the guy who taught me how to play as a birthday present. That double P sounds like a good way to go to me.

I don't have a favorite pickup configuration. I've heard basses with every imagineable variation sound great - while another bass with that same configuration sounds terrible. This is one of the coolest looking ones though.

i want to mod my Precision... and i'm loking for a second pickup, one for the bridge.
I have a Dimarzio DP122 in the neck, and an standard Squier P pickup in the room... i want to put it in the bridge...
The P in the bridge will be good for soloing? i want a more trebbly and clarity tone... don't know if an P will be good for that or instead i should go for the standard J in the bridge

the dimarzio has higher output than the squier p that you have (i'm almost positive). so you will have a drop in volume when you switch to the bridge pickup. i would try to use a dp122 in the bridge with a 500k volume for that pickup to bring out some high end. also, the closer it is to the bridge the more trebly it will sound.

A 500k pot allows for more high frequencies to pass than a 250k pot. The higher the value, the brighter the tone.

What about that controls? 4 knows and a switch?
Did you find the bridge pickup really good for soloing and get a "a-la-jazz" tone? Or how could you define the bridge sound?
My problem is that I want a PP, but I have doubts about the sound of the bridge P...

The controls are the regular audere jazz plate--volume, mid/balance stack, treble/bass stack, 3z switch. I actually run it flat most of the time, with minor tweaks depending on the situation.
The bridge pickup has a nice agressiveness, but it's not over the top at all. I was worried there would be too much treble, but there isn't--it does something like a stingray grind, actually, very crisp but not overbearingly so (that pickup, fwiw, is a dimarzio model p).
