I think you should learn how to use the amp you have. Forge a tone that you like and make it your own. One day some one might post asking how to get Jeremy’s tone.

Perhaps someday...for now though since I'm still in the begining stages of bass playing I'm having a blast trying to jam along with my favorite band. I'm constantly fiddling with the controls on the amp...I made the mistake of buying the fender prior to listening to it. Lesson learned.

That is indeed a rookie mistake but you are not alone in making that one!

One thing I've always noticed about his playing style is that he tends to pick near closer to where the neck meets the body. That gives the tone more of that Duff "dirt clank" that is always present. Picking close to the bridge makes the sound more "tight" which I personally don't hear in his tone.

A touch of chorus. Can't tell you which one. But his isolated tracks on youtube as well as "You Could be Mine" and "Sweet Child o' Mine" for references. The touch of chorus gave him that signature semi-clean clank you hear.

lol no doubt when gnr started those gk heads and aerodynes didn't even exist

Hey so look at this, I have a gk 410mbx cab and a 800rb. That's all I've used for 7+ years. This popped up on Craigslist, head case, 400rb, korg tuner, some old gk cab 410 no model number on it....$300 total.

I didn't research his gear while searching for his tone to use in a rock/metal band. It took a few years to get that type of tone. Ironically, I got it by using Stainless Steel strings, changed to a pick, and ran it through a GK head and 2 115 cabs. With your current gear, use stainless steel and a pick plus get a parametric or graphic EQ pedal and start cutting the low mids.

Actually he used Yamaha SPX-90II Multi effect processor for chorus on the Illusion tour. Don't know if he used it in the studio during that period. Btw i never heard him using Ibanez CS9 until the recent reunion.

That was something I discovered in recent months. He actually mentioned it in a few different interviews if you look in the book Reckless Road with all the early pictures right around the time appetite was recorded you'll see pictures on stage with that

The stuff he recorded with otherwise with stuff he already had the 215 cabinet and the chorus pedal he didn't get the other stuff for the tour until later for the Illusions for appetite he use that same gear for the tour and eventually added more cabinets he didn't even have a rack at that time and was only one using one GK

It's pretty unclear what he used when he recorded for the Illusion album. In the forward to one of the tab books there's an interview and he said he used the same setup for that album that he use for appetite with the same Producer Mike Klink I actually met Mark canter in Hollywood last year, he was there.

With SPX90 you can mix chorus & flanger and that,s pretty close the sound he used at the beginning of Rocket Queen and his bass solo on the Tokyo DVD.

Id bet if that is flanger, it was added as a studio effect. Hard to say. I've always used just chorus.

It's kinda like Mike Starr from AIC. He never metioned owning a flanger, never even used pedals and I talked at length with Evan from bass northwest whom was there for recording of Dirt, but there is clearly flanger on Them Bones. Likely added during mixing.
