Seekingchildren's musician/guitarist with experience with toddlers, interested in singing and playing with our budding 2-year-old musician a few times each month. He has his own half-sized guitar which he strums to songs he composes himself. Great if you know a lot of children's music as well.

I hope this is a joke.

http://nanaimo.en.craigslist.ca/muc/1374765013.html

Hello there! (ladies and gentlemen?)
If you got that joke, then keep reading.

We are currently looking for a Bass Player for our Rock Band Band. This band consists of a Hard/Expert Vocalist, a Hard/Expert Drummer, and a Expert Guitar Player. Must also play on at least Hard level. Being attractive is a plus, as all three members are sexy bi-hotches.

This band practices evenings and weekends, fairly often, so the more available you are the better.

Please reply with a little bit about yourself, only serious replies will be considered.

We look forward to hearing from you!

In January of this year a lot of people thought it was a JOKE ...

This may not be particularly dumb, but I found it interesting that he is looking for up to 10 musicians w/ music degrees for a Country Rock Band? Seems a bit overkill.

In my current cover band we fired (OK, he quit minutes before he was fired) our singer/guitarist because, even though he had a degree in music, he couldn't remember lyrics or song structure to save his life!!!

Yes, he knew theory and could read music, but that didn't matter in this gig. He had about 5 of our 40 song set down, and each week when we would set out the list of songs to learn (about 4-5 each week) everyone else had them 90% nailed for rehearsal, but he would train wreck each one.

His music degree couldn't overcome his inability to memorize simple rock songs. OK for some gigs, not for this one.

I am a singer/songwriter with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from The Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach.
I would like to form a contemporary band of musicians with a strong musicianship and theory background.

My sound is best described as modern country/rock without "twaing." Influences of modern country, but I love to rock.

Primarily I am looking for a kit, guitarist, bassist and pianist; and with that foundation add a violin, trumpet, tenor or alto sax, trombone, and alto and soprano backup singers, all with the core of a Bachelor of Music (or at minimum a music degree in progress).

I have high goals to become a major touring musician. If you have the same mindset and a great work ethic, I would love to team up and make great things happen.
Please contact me via the craigslist email with any questions. Let's meet up and get things going!

Best regards,

Ok, so I just moved here from Williamsburg, Brooklyn and I NEED to start a band NOW. My influences are Slint, Pavement, Archers of Loaf, Built to Spill and a lot of things you haven't heard of out here. So don't hit me up with your hick town heavy metal wannabe garbage (pantera, sepultura fans stop reading here).

I mainly sing and I prefer not to play guitar because I am too good for the genre. I studied Jazz guitar under some of the modern masters in NYC for 13 years and everything I play sounds to tight and too pretty for an Indie band. I need a bassist and drummer first. I have my own songs so I prefer to start from scratch and not play your old bands' songs since I haven't heard anything out here that has impressed me yet.

Hit me up

Yes but. Rock Band has awaken more than one kid to music. My 12 year-old nephew started drums after drumming like crazy on this game so much that he killed the pads and they got him the real thing. He's been getting lessons every week and there is no doubt in my mind he will soon get in a band.

My daughters play it and their tastes evolved from Hannah Montana to Rush, Styx, No Doubt, Bon Jovi, etc... A slight step up if you ask me.

The Rock Band / Guitar Hero nights are just a fashion, it will pass. No doubt in my mind. Some bars around here stopped doing it.

Watching people play video games is only fun if you're Grandma watching the kids, and even.

Just what is it with these people who think they're The Second Coming Of Music Itself and cannot explain their influences or whatever without completely insulting their prospective candidates? Jeez, nor WAY would I answer any of these ads, much less ask for an audition...they probably shoot the rejects, thinking that it improves the breed or something.

I think they just want a babysitter!

No kidding. I mean, if the kid's a prodigy of some kind, I don't think I would describe it as he strums along to stuff he composes on a toy guitar. Coming from where they do though I can just picture these stoned out new age parents believing that when the kid craps itself its some new expressive form of art. This would be a fun gig to play drunk.

+1

My 16 year old brother started out playing Guitar Hero like crazy, beat them all on expert and it not only opened his eyes to new music but he picked up a real guitar and has been playing for just over a year and a half now and is pretty good, lots of potential, and is in the process of starting his own high school band. He has pretty much quit playing GH now.

I know there are some cons to the game but it does bring some people around to playing actual instrument.

This one cracked me up.

Just how punk are you if you buy some fancy gear from a catalog? For the discerning bad-ass with no taste or pride, I am offering a Crate BX-25 amplifier FOR FREE. It will cost you nothing, except maybe respect from other musicians and possibly your health. That's right - not only is this amp used and abused, it is covered in white AND green mold! You could literally be the sickest player in town. The Crate BX-25 is meant for bass, but I'm sure that this particular specimen will make your guitar sound ******, too. Back in its prime, this thing sounded halfway decent. It was even used by the Grancy Blood Brothers. You haven't heard of them? That's probably because they were terrible! Or maybe you just aren't THAT punk. Imagine how disturbed and uncomfortable your bandmates will be when you tote this piece of crap to rehearsals - or even the stage! Isn't it worth their disgusted reactions? Don't you owe it to your idiotic fans who actually enjoy your "music"? So, if you are gross, stupid, and have the huevos to come by and relieve me of this atrocity, respond to this post for more details. No tourists or second thoughts - you want this amp, you take it AS IS knowing that you earned the right to play the poopiest amp possible. My gain is your loss!

Sigh... I wonder if anybody appreciates the ALLCAPS, following some lowercase THEN ALLCAPS AGAIN!!!!

Also, I thought part about what the vocalist sounded like got me. :D
