Dump your Cell phone

Perhaps I should have left the conspiracy thing out... it's all that you all are focusing on. I just thought it would be fun to interject that.

The real issue is the money wasted on a silly toy that you don't need.

Speak for yourself. Some people like to be able to talk to their wives or children without having to find a pay phone or wait until they get home. There's a lot of money to be saved in the convenience rather than running around like it's 1985. Technology is not the devil. Conspiracy theorists are.

The real issue is the money wasted on a silly toy that you don't need.

This is purely subjective. So you may not have people in your life you need to contact, or communicate with - others do.
It was also mentioned here earlier about business purposes. You can do a lot of business communication on smart phones that is absolutely vital to some people these days. Phones aren't just toys, just as cars aren't just so you don't have to walk.

Tools for communication my friend.

...a silly toy that you don't need.

That a matter of opinion highly subjective. You may think it's a silly toy but there are people who use them to not only communicate but conduct business - people to whom their phone is their lifeline and livelihood. You might want to think about how you view them, if not for yourself because there are millions floating out there in the world. Chances are there are that many because they're not "silly toys".

I don't know any one person that spends $500 a month on a cellphone.... Mine's $120 a month, and that's because i have unlimited everything.

15€ unlimited everything here in EU lol.
Well there is small charge if you exceed certain amount of time speaking or messages sent.
Every 12year+ kid has one here. I kinda do not like that tho :hmm: Market is so full of telephone-operating companies, so that's the reason it is so affordable.
Oh and yes, once you get used to it.... not having one, is just like wearing no underpants.

Couldn't have said it better myself but it didn't keep me from trying ;)

HookerRoad - by chance ... have you been reading Catcher in the Rye lately and/or feeling compelled to buy a new copy every time you walk past a book store?

:hiding:

if you're not posting to TB on a computer at the library - why are you wasting your money on a computer and internet when you could save your money and use the one at a library for free. think of how much you're going to save this year by offing your computer and internet services

all the best,

What about all of the recording gear you have. Wouldn't a portable cassette recorder do the trick.

It isn't the cell phones themselves that I have such a problem with, it's the ways in which people so often use them. Pure self-indulgent rudeness. :spit:

Agreed. A friend of a co-worker just got in a terrible car accident because a guy driving a huge SUV dropped his cell phone on the floor mat. While proceeding to fish around for it on the floor mat, he blew a red light and t-boned her. Luckily he hit her passenger side, but her car is totaled and she has potentially serious internal body injuries.

Everyone has to have a cell phone. You'd think they were as necessary as underwear. I don't have one, don't want one, don't need one.

Why do I say "Dump your Cell phone?" Because you don't need it. You don't need the expense. I don't know how many times I have been talking to a poor musician complaining about how broke they were and wish they could afford a better amp and then pick up their cell phone and start texting someone.

Now, I considered getting one once and when I found out how much it would cost to have one, my reaction was no thanks. Anywhere from $80 to $500 a month depending on use. Do the math... That's somewhere between $1000 and $6000 per year. I can buy some pretty nice gear... every year for that expense.

The sad part of this whole ordeal is, that most people that have cell phones still have their land line as well. I just don't get it.

Now there is another reason to dump your cell phone. "Big Brother." Here's a great conspiracy in the world of conspiracy theories. Did you know that your cell phone is a surveillance device? Punch in a code from a remote location and someone can turn on the microphone to your cell phone and listen to anyone in ear shot. And the phone doesn't even need to be on for this to work. The camera can be turned on in the same way as well. The only way to prevent it is too remove the battery. Protocol in top secret government meetings for cell phones is none are allowed without the batteries being removed.

Some are coming out with GPS tracking devices in them as well. This is sold to you in the pretense that if you are injured or lost then they can find you and come rescue you. Gee... I didn't know they cared so much for my welfare... isn't that nice!

You don't need to pay for the government to spy on you. Dump your Cell phone!

Because they arent listening/watching you via satellite right this very moment. Do you really believe the governemt would do this? It wouldnt make sense anyways. If the government wants to listen to what Im doing, but my cell phone is in my car, its not going to do them much good, is it? Or if it were in my gf's purse.

You know, practically every odd corner has a camera on it. So do ATMs, better not use them, or drive anywhere for that matter.

how is that unlimited?
For instance, I am at telephone company A. Let's say that you are too :) We can make calls to each other for unlimited time :) But, if you or I make call to phone number of company B there is like 500minutes or so you can use, all that for 15€. If you exceed those 500 you pay extra charge but it ain't a lot and I never exceed it. Oh sorry for this long post but it is hard for me to express in English :)

makes sense.....and your english is bettter than any foreign language i can speak.

everytime I (how do I say this.?) watch innapropiate content on internet and get comfortable I cover the damn webcam on the edge of my laptop. So I can buy into the conspiracy thing. :D When everyone acts paranoid is because there is a reason!!!!
and last.....I don't know where I read this, "not because you are paranoid doesn't mean they are not after you".

on the money aspect of things, I have a cell phone and put like 10 euros every few months and use it for the REAL important things, and recieving calls. When I was in England I think 10 pounds lasted me once over three months.

It's not about substance... it's about constitutional rights. They don't have the right to listen at all... but now they have the technology to listen to anyone... and the best part... they get you to pay for that technology.

THEYRE ALREADY LISTENING/WATCHING.

Not having a cell phone does not exempt you. Hey, do you like, receive mail, like, in a mailbox?

THEY KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE!

Perhaps I should have left the conspiracy thing out... it's all that you all are focusing on. I just thought it would be fun to interject that.

We're only focusing on that because it makes you sound like, well to put it nicely, a guitard.

The real issue is the money wasted on a silly toy that you don't need.

If I dont have a phone how is my fiancee supposed to get ahold of me and tell me she'll be late for dinner and not to worry that she's not home? How is my band going to call me and say our set got bumped up and hour and I need to arrive earlier than planned? How is my Mom going to send me stupid pictures of ducks and turtles at the park that seem to make her so happy? How is my Dad going to send me hilarious graphic pics with witty sayings to crack a smile? How is my niece supposed to text me at midnite and say 'What are you doing?' How am I supposed to call a venue and book a show? Better yet, how am I supposed to call AAA when my car breaks down on the freeway and I need a tow?

If you dont want a cell phone, thats fine. Im sure your parents could use the extra $40 a month to buy you some pogs or something.

I bet your coworkers friend was glad that she had a cell phone to call her insurance agent, a tow truck, and a ride home.
