Dunlop Strings - one word "Wow"

Ok! I put a nickel set on one of my basses, I come from Slinkies and love them, they're just too expensive over here in france, I wanted to try something cheaper.
First of all, I didn't really like the feeling, I didn't find them smooth at all. Then the sound: way to much midrange... I use a lot of midrange (vt bass+ svt), and these strings made my bass bark too much.
And then, I broke the E-string after no more than 6 hours of playing....
For me, it's a negative no!!!

You need to check your setup or bridge saddles to find out why it's breaking strings.

I'm going to place an order online for 1-2 sets of nickel of Dunlops, for a 5-strings bass (34").
After asking in talkbass, months ago, regarding .125 or .130 gauge for the B, i settled on the .130 .......

But i have one final question:
i read all the posts in this thread (whew !) and others, about Dunlop strings...... but i didn't see anyone talking about the quality and response of the B string in detail........

Well: it's not tapered. Did anyone experienced if its overtones are in tune or not ?
I have a sensibility about it ........ Every DR low B string i tried was too rigid and with untuned overtones (and "double" natural harmonics, and with chorus effects when played high ........... )
and recently i saw the same with the Sadowsky Blues ........

(and it's not my bass........ i have no problems with B strings of other brands (La Bella, etc) .... the old D'Addario XL were the perfection, for me ......) ....

So: anyone ?......

Thanks, and greetings.

Wow, I didn't expect this. I put Dunlops on my starter bass just because they were on sale at Music and Arts and I didn't know much about the different brands (still don't). I didn't expect much because the reviews they got in the TB review section weren't great but liked the sound. They still sound great, better than the D'addario XLs I just put on my second bass. Hmmm, maybe I'll switch over if I can get a set of 5 on sale.

I put the Dunlop Nickels on my new (to me) P5, and they sound good, lots of fundamental and attack. Not as many highs as I'm used to, but it's my first P bass so maybe that's what it is.

But they seem very high-tension to me, does anybody else find that? I'm used to DR Fatbeams lately, so in contrast these are pretty tight.

For me, they are not as high tension as Low-Beams or Rotosounds, but still has enough tension. So if someone wants somewhat more elastic strings than the two mentioned ones above, Dunlop would be it.

After reading all of these comments on Dunlop strings, i ordered, just out of curiosity, a nickel set for 5-strings (45-130).

I started putting on the B .......... I did set the saddle height, i did the octave .........
I tried to play it ...........
After one hour i put it away and put the old string on (a Hard Rocking Steel B).........

I couldn't believe i could appreciate a string less than a D'Addario XLs B string.........
It happened, with these Dunlops .......

Bah ...... :)

I really like the B on XLs. After using Dunlops on my Carvin for the past week, I still really like them but I just like the feel and sound of Daddarios more. The more I try different strings the more I realize XLs are just perfect for this bass.

I just put these on my Spector Euro 4 and to be completely honest, it sounds better than the nickel DR Lo-Riders I had on it. Lots of growl, tons of definition, and a nice mid-heavy sound...not to mention a loss of clack that the DRs seemed to have. However, like the previous posts have mentioned, I'm going to wait and see how long these strings last. If they pass the test, then I'm using these for roundwounds from now on :D

I tried a set of Mike Lull steels and they're awesome strings.

(Please note: HUMOR below if you have no sense of humor, please go to the next one and sorry.)

I put on a set of Sadowsky chromes and man, they rock harder than Led Zepplin. I just hope I can pay the credit card bill for them off by the time I gotta replace them, got 20 years to go on that and all I bought was the strings!

(Please note: Humor in post, not serious).
