Dunlop Super Bright Nickels Should Be Called....

You guys STOP praising the nickel Super Brights!!!!
Dunlop will figure out just how much we LOVE these strings and start raising the prices....

This thread has me interested enough to try a set.. and the cost makes for such a nice low barrier of entry.

That's what I finally did. I stayed away initially due to the name and the perceived brightness. Bought a set and had them for a few weeks before I finally put them on my P bass.

The only thing that would sway people away from the Dunlop Super Brights is the tension and the way they flex. If you are used to a more traditional, hex core response from your strings you will probably not like these. They are very round core in nature and extremely flexible. I know some people that have to add a lot of relief and raise the action just to make these work.

Yeah, that name applies and then it doesn't. A buddy of mine once joked that they should put them out under the name "Super Warm Nickels" as well, and they'd sell them to the ones who don't want "super bright."

That's a fantastic idea! I'll also bet that folks (TB'ers especially!) would snatch them up if they were labeled 'Super Balanced Nickels'.

That's not "Super Balanced Nickels." That's just "Balanced Nickels." Besides I don't think you can trademark the word "balanced."

And BTW, I can't speak for any other set but the 40-100 SB Nickel sets, but they feel quite balanced to me

Once the GHS Balanced Nickels are officially out and available, I really should try both the GHS and the Dunlop and see which deserves the "Super Balanced" title. It should be an interesting comparison.

Meanwhile, Dunlop can have the "Super Bright, Warm and Crunchy" title.

Yes, better than High Beams for me and Super Brights are a bit less tension.
