Dunwich Amplification General Discussion

I was an idiot for ever selling my first full size ODB. It’s such an amazing bass overdrive. I had a 125B ODB too but it didn’t seem as boss as the big full size version. Might have just been placebo though.
There are times I regret selling my Wizard Fuzz. It was really cool, but I have trouble justifying having it.

It would seem like the Model FeT and the Da120 are similar in that they are trying to recreate the tone stacks of two famous amps. Since you have both, how would you describe them in a comparison? I just learned about the Model FeT today, but it seems like the highs are a little crispier while the DA120 is darker with more rumble in the drive. Would you say that is accurate?

I'd say that's pretty accurate, the fett can get more aggressive in that sense. The fet also has seperate gain controls for treble and bass, in addition to the 3 band eq, so you can control how much high end and how much low end dirt there is. Back down the treble dirt and you get more low end dirt, etc. In the end the both accomplish their goals very effing well.

If the model Fet is too pricey (which I personally think it is) or too hard to find (EAE seems to limit production to keep the interest level up), I just bought this which is basically the same thing and is over $100 less. It sounds incredible. They come up a quit a lot on Reverb. Check a day or two later if one is not listed. Simply search for "Sunn Pedal" and they pop up.

Nah. The Model feT is worth every penny.
Not knocking the homebrew scene but just like anything, you get what you pay for.

I think it's more a case of small operations and quality control rather than EAE choking the supply to keep the demand up. Most of these legitimately small pedal producers have a hard time maintaining a surplus because they often drill/build by hand.

Regarding the one you bought, have you played the EAE version or just the Kenny B? Honestly wondering if they are very close in sound or if you're just talking about the control parameters on the face?

I have not played a Model Fet, but the vids online sound exactly like my Kenny B, so I'm happy having saved close to $130.

With some pedals you are correct, but with the Kenny B I got a great Model T preamp that sounds exactly (from what I can tell from an youtube video) like one that costs more than twice as much. The wiring and build quality on the Kenny B are impeccable, so I'm very happy with my purchase. The very few online reviews of the Kenny B compare it very favorably to the EAE version.

Fuzz is it’s own justification.
I know this is TB heresy, but after going through nearly every fuzz style around, I sort of gave up on fuzz. In a power trio fuzz can work, but in my situation where I had two guitar players that didn't know their volumes could go down, or that they didn't need to fill up all the sonic space, fuzz just made be vanish. Space Slug and Monolord can make it work, but I can't.
When I think about the bass tones I really like (Cathedral, Sleep, Bison, Kylesa) they use overdrive and not fuzz. I miss the Wizard because it is such a monumental pedal, and it seems like a lot of them are floating around right now.

I think people are dumping their old versions in order to get the new 125B. There does seem to be a lot for sale all of a sudden.
Personally I prefer the look of the original much more. I would just like it shrunk down a little. The design is perfect. That's what I mean by monumental. You see the OG one and think "F yeah!"
I have a custom blend, so now I don't have to worry about on-board blends anymore.

I hear you. There is a huge placebo effect of having a large enclosure. To me big pedals just sound bigger even though I know I am wrong about that. I have an OG wizard and am getting the blended one too. I just like collecting Dunwich stuff. Congrats on your blender pedal. Probably one of those super popular Damnation ones right?

Broughton custom.
I was sort of collecting for a while too. Then I wanted a Barefaced cab. Then I wanted a Spector LX5. Now I'm unofficially (unwillingly) retired. The one DA pedal on my check list is the 120. I keep debating if I can make it work well on bass.

From what little I can tell from online demos, the 120 isn't a great bass pedal. But with a blend, who knows?
