Temporal Rift
Anyone on here got one? I did, it just arrived and after a bit of noodling around at home, here's what I think of it.
On paper, this was an interesting and intriguing idea .. at least to me.
In reality it's a stroke of genius, executed with the well known Dunwich perfection.
I'm neither a "reverb guy" nor an expert in that field, so can't say much about the reverb itself, how it compares to others and stuff.
(The only reverb I own is RM-1N that I love - I never tried another - until now.)
Now, the pedal and the sounds:
With the gain (Dwell) and the Meatbox side (Morph/Warp) all the way down, you get a nice reverb, adjusted to taste with the Echo knob and mixed with the clean as you like via the mix knob. It can selfoscillate too, which I like.
Then, you can bring up the gain (Dwell), for example to the point where there is just some lingering distortion on the reverbed sound, if you play softly it's not there, if you dig in, it goes chrchrhchrchr. Lovely! You can have that up front or in the background depending on the Mix knob.
And now we get to the good part: the Meatbox sound. I do have a Meatbox and from what I heard so far at home (5W tube amp & full range 2x12" from the 70ies), the Temporal Rift pretty much nails the sound of the MB - the way I use it at least (without the octave, I always dial that way back on the Meatbox and bring up both sub channels to almost max).
I used the word genius up there, and that's mostly referring to the ability to add the MB sound to the dry (Warp) and wet (Morph) independantly. This opens up a whole lot of possibilities to sculpt your sound - together with the different positions of the gain and mix knobs.
And finally, you can put some fuzz (or any other pedal) in front of it and go through all the possibilities again .... so far, I like to add a bit of MB to the fuzz to fatten it up, crank the reverb to the brink of oscillation, add a lot of MB to the reverbed sound and - why not - throw in some gain to spice it up another notch - woo-hoo!
I'm really looking forward to try this pedal with the big rigs in the practice space, (especially through the 200s/301)!
Short version: it's killer!
