Dunwich Amplification General Discussion

I really appreciate the feedback! I have not heard much yet from customers about this design and its probably the most creative idea ive had in 5 years or more.

 It's a really great design, simple and yet very effective.

What I forgot to mention is that it also works the other way around, of course - take out the reverb (via mix knob) and just put on some octave on the clean - boom, there's your Meatbox (sound-a-like).

The only knob I didn't move since I touched it first and put it on noon is Sub - is this just volume? Or does it also do something else?

Basically the raw sub volume level. That way you can have even finer control over the mix ratio in the dry or wet. The mix controls for the octave just control the % mix ratio while sub controls the actual sub volume max.

If you drive the sub up you can get really crazy low frequency noise in the reverb if you drive it hard and start clipping the protection LEDs which is where the usual distortion is being introduced in the wet signal.

Super Volt Thrower prototype is built:

The only design decision is the center frequency of the mid boost.

Originally I wanted to make is 3 way selectable but I ran out of space to add that so its currently only at a single frequency. Matt wanted 500 Hz so its parked there at the moment but it could change, its just 2 caps which basically control that value.

just make it as big as the big box WF :)

I grabbed a 125b Volt Thrower from the classifieds and it arrived yesterday. I jammed on it briefly tonight, and the pedal currently on my board that's most at-risk is my Broughton Terraformer. I like the VT at high gain but I think my favorite sounds were low-gain and no clipping to add some crunch. I could see this as an always-on pedal but I need to experiment with it more.

So I finally got around to putting my new blended Volt Thrower on my board... I’ve had a super bad head cold all week and the pedal has been sitting unboxed in my studio... Anyway, the art on this pedal fits it’s character perfectly as the pedal is BRUTAL. The controls seem to be fairly interactive and after spending some time dialing it in, I’ve been getting some wonderfully heavy distortion, although I’ve had to use the active pad on my amp as the pedal puts out a hot signal.

Edit: did good and long session tonight with my new super VT and am totally digging it. I’ve always loved the VT and this is next level. Obviously it’s not a standard VT. I had Nick put in a Germanium clipping diode in place of the High Si diode. The mid control thickens things up and the blend adds clean low end... and to my ears and taste it’s perfect.
