earthquaker devices the warden compressor?

Meanin I had the sustain up to 4 o'clock on the comp. not literally all the way up, but pretty darn close. With the sustain up all the way, it cranks the input gain and starts to introduce some noise (not from the pedal tho, it's from all that gain boost that's happening.

Ah ha. Try turning that knob in the other direction. :)

Hey, are the earthquaker devices really all that?? Ive seen them in the past but never paid much attention to them. But lately, I have been seeing a lot of love for the company here on TB. Im just wondering how the quality is on some of them. If I were to grab a good, rich OD and or dist, which on e would you guys recommend? The monarch?? That Hummingbird look awesome! I know its a trem. I like those too :)

They have some cool looking stuff for sure. The only problem is that they are guitar pedals that CAN work on bass, and those types of pedals don't always work out for me.

They make some quality gear for sure. Not all of them are bass friendly, but I've been using the Monarch for my light always on grit for a couple of years now and after playing a lot of muff derivatives, have found the Hoof Fuzz to be my favorite.

You guys were totally right, by the way... turning the sustain knob down (and thus raising the threshold) solved the problem I was having. I wish I could find a numerical value for the knobs as I still have a hard time just using my ears with a compressor.
After solving that one issue, I can say this is a pretty awesome sounding pedal.

The Hummingbird IS entirely AWESOME!
Goes from standard (though delicious!!!) tremolo sounds to absolutely obnoxious synth-esque tones... it's everything and more than it's supposed to be... IMO an absolute winner in the tremolo category...

I had a Warden on my board for a couple of years. Great comp. I ended getting a Keeley Compressor pro (it turns out I like VCA based comps better), but the Warden is a great optical comp that doesn't get nearly the love it deserves.
Any setting suggestions. I dont want to squash my sound, only tighten it up. Ive been making fantastic progress on my overall levels playing, however, when i have to "chug" notes i tend to lose the nite definition. Im hoping the compressor will help remedy that to some degree.

The warden doesn't really squash unless you have it at extreme settings. I'd start with all knobs at noon and start by playing with the compression and ratio knobs. They are highly interactive so you just have to play around with it until you get used to it.
