East Tennessee Talkbass

Hey Michael, I've been lurking this thread for a while - you're a busy guy! Glad to see you're thriving in the theatrical niche.

I'm still chugging along. Trying to stay cool and dry, and that's been a tall order this summer. Had a scare a couple months ago when a EF1 tornado ripped up some woods 3/4 mile from home but missed us thank goodness.

BTW, the team of off-site repair techs that Murlin's in Murvul use have been solid and reasonable, working on several pieces of solid-state & tube gear for me over the past year or so. I haven't had any work done by Murlin's own employees so I can't speak to that but these other 2 guys have been excellent for me. Just sayin'.

Hey Michael; thanks for the reply. I am working on getting someone to get some music on the website. We are recording all of the services to DVD now and are blessed with a lot better of a PA system now than what we started with. The music is actually being mixed very well (our soundman is GREAT; that is my opinion of course). We are blessed to have him. We are a contemporary type band playing music ranging from Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, Casting Crowns, Third Day, etc. to old hymns (but with our own take on them). I am blessed to be with a great bunch of people in this church. We are a full band (vocals, two acoustic guitars, one electric guitar, keyboards, drums, and loud bass of course)!!! I will let you guys know when we get some music on there. Thanks for the encouragement and have a blessed weekend!!!

Speaking of repair work- I need to find someone who can do finish repair. I had a mishap on Father's Day- was loading the car to go to a read-through when the zipper opened on the XZ-25 gig bag and the bass dropped onto the concrete garage floor. This is the one on the lower right in my avatar picture.

It smashed the finish pretty well on the top bout. It's a $325 bass, so I don't want to spend a lot on a refinish, but would like to investigate who does this kind of guitar work in the Knoxville area. It may be that I have to either sell this bass for some token amount to someone who wants to put the money into getting it redone- or try the strip and refin myself. What do you guys suggest?

If I can bring myself to get it out and look at it (haven't been able to yet!), I will take a picture or two and add them to this post.

YES! +1 million

Same here. Hoping you get back to full speed very soon.

The Hubcaps had a blast today at the 50th anniversary gig. Lots of dancing in a nicely decorated and well air conditioned room. $150 just from the tip jar! I think they liked us. :-)

Next up is Saturday, 7/2 at the VFW in Motown. Huge room that is acoustically challenged but has a killer dance floor. If you aren't booked next Saturday, come on out and say Hi. Band starts @ 9.

Which, naturally, since musicians are wont to fuse styles together, makes me visualize metalgrass. :rollno:

Grizzly, what are your groups' names?

My bluegrass band is named Djenini, you probably haven't heard of us, we have mostly been doing church gigs and other church functions, we are going to be recording in July and hopefully get to some festivals. The metal band doesn't have a name yet, and we haven't gigged at all.

I think it's 6 bucks. Directions are I40E to I81N to exit 8. North on 25E to the 11E exit. Right on 11E and the VFW is 200 yds on the right. Very easy to find. Hope to see some of you guys there!

Funk Generator - Just noticed you are coming from the tri-cities. Just skip the I40 part. I'm sure you can find I81, unless you want to ride 11E all the way in. Yup, same road that runs thru JC.
