East Tennessee Talkbass

Got a non-music question for you guys. Last weekend I was in Kingsport visiting my Mom and decided to take Hwy 11W back to Knoxville. Normally I go I-81 and I-40 but thought I'd take the scenic route since I hadn't seen that area since I was a teenager. Along the way I saw a very unusual pile of black stone. I think it was around Sneedville, but am not sure. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

Sat. night, I went to a private party in New Market. I went as a guest, not to play, alas. The house band was Link Removed. They played a lot of jazz standards and some blues. Clint Mullican is extraordinary on upright! Very enjoyable performance. I had seen them a couple years ago at a house concert and was really looking forward to hearing them live again.

They are playing next at the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] at Boyd's Jig and Reel tomorrow night, July 5, at 7 PM. Also (paging Jeff R.!) they are at Barley's in Maryville Thursday night, July 6, at 8 PM for the Behind the Barn radio show.

This is a reunion tour, of sorts, since Devan moved to Texas a couple years ago and the rest of the band stayed in Knoxville with their own projects. So the Stomp may happen again in the future, or it may not. Get out there and see them while you can!

Mame is off to a great start at Oak Ridge Playhouse! It's good to be back there after a two year absence.

The show band is playing in the rehearsal room in the adjacent building to the theatre. There was not enough room on stage for the band due to the amount of set pieces used by the production. It's different, but fun.

We have two weekends to go. This Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The following weekend is Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Come see a performance!

Hi everyone! I've played bass on and off again for the past 14 years but I'd like to take it more seriously and finally progress past my beginner purgatory. Are there any good bassists giving lessons in the Knoxville area that someone can at least partially recommend? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Well, I've finally saturated my schedule and will regretfully have to pull back on some commitments. There is an opening for a bassist who would like to play with a band with a horn section. Sax, trumpet, trombone, keyboard, drummer, guitarist. Needing a versatile bassist who ideally could sing lead and or backup.

Audition is next Friday, I would be willing to accompany anyone interested to handle the introductions.

Hit me up on PM and I can put you in contact.

How often do they gig? What area do they intend to gig? I might be interested.

They have a LOT of yacht club/dock inside contacts as they live on Tellico and were shooting for November, but my leaving has put a question mark on that. If my replacement can get up to speeed quickly, I don't see why that goal is in danger.

They aren't interested in gigging more than a couple times a month, but it will be quality gigs, not your usual ET pub crawls.....(not that there's anything wrong with those:D).

The bonus with this group, is the drummer, keyboard player and guitarist want to work as an independent unit for other/more/different gigs, so there is more work there if you want it.

Audition is next Friday the 8th. If you're interested PM me, I can tag along and make the introductions.

What kind of material are they doing? A couple gigs a month is perfect as I'm down near Chattanooga - don't mind the drives. I have tons of experience. A lot of it with R&B/funk horn bands. I read & learn fast but not a huge singer.

Hey Barry!!! Good to hear from you, brother!! Holler at me, if you have time...

Hey guys!!!! It's me again lol... Hope everybody is doing well!!!
Just wanted to let everybody know I am buying a lot of new gear right now, and will have to purge out a lot of my stuff I have now to make room. Most of my gear is in excellent condition, and if its not, I would tell you for sure.
Some examples of stuff I will post for sale (or possible trade if the right item comes along:bassist:) would be cables, mics, combo amps, basses, cabinets, possibly some pedals, hardshell bass cases, racks (some new never used) and other good stuff.
If anybody is interested, please message me. I will be making up a list of stuff over the next few days. It may be next week before I get a list totally together, as I am in the process of moving right now. I would make package deals and give more off than what I will price it. Just like dealing locally before having to ship if possible.
Thanks guys!!! Have a great week and God Bless!!!

That sounds like a great starter!
This little gal at church is wanting to upgrade, her budget is 300 which should get her a really decent used.....

I bought my first acoustic in high school, a Japanese "Fannin". The F in Fannin was a complete ripoff of Fender, while the body was a ripoff of a D-35.

Awesome sounding guitar over 35 years old now. I paid about 300 back then, I've seen them on eBay for many thousands recently!
