Your drummer also has a keyboard. That seems kind of dangerous. Also, what is it with young, talented drummers these days? I haven’t worked a pit with one over age 22 in YEARS.
Dale is about 26, and is finishing a Ph.D. in musicology at UTK. He uses the keyboard to play tympani parts on a couple of songs. It's entertaining to see him playing a beat in a song with his right hand and two feet, and playing the tympani part with his left hand at the same time.
Most of the drummers I've worked with are in their 20's. I know what you mean. We have a hard time finding drummers that will play for more than a couple of productions, or that will commit to working 2 or 3 weekends at the rate the theatres pay.
