I have definitely noticed the increase of jam nights. I recently switched careers, choosing freelance bass work, lessons, and the shop, as my sole source of income. The jams definitely close the door, on bands. I understand their importance, but, it is a perpetuating cycle. You jam, you might play, for the house band..at the jams. I've stopped driving, to Knoxville, unless it's a paying gig. I even have friends, in that scene. But, Like the rest of us, I can't always play, for free.

I, like Jeff, like the idea of another ETTB get-together, however they've not been well attended lately. The first one, a few years back, was very well attended and there were tons of basses and amps and effects and fun stuff. That was a blast. The second one had about six ETTBer's, then we hit the current stretch where it's just been 2 or 3 of us. Instead of a small gathering like that, I think I'd rather get with some of you and go see a ETTB'er gig out somewhere. Unless we, as a group, can really talk up another GTG!

That was a fun day! I remember that that Phil Jones rig moved a TON of air. Seems like it filled every crack and corner of that room. I still have the LMlll + Audiokinesis combo. Have added a Mesa D800+ and another cab for bigger venues.
Getting to play a lot of basses in a quiet environment was so much more rewarding than trying things in a music store. Plus, my store doesn't carry Dingwalls, fretless Beatle basses, and half the instruments that were there.

PDG, good to see you post here again! Loved the way the TC cabinet sounded. It was good to meet you that day and talk about the whole Duke LeJeune thing.

I was pretty hot to get a TC 115 after playing through yours, but waited long enough that my frugality (thanks, Mom!) kicked in. I'm looking again, at the TC 112 with the back tweeter option.. also I'm thinking that the Barefaced Big Baby 2 might be worth a try.

I always hoped DukeOfRock from Nashville would come to an ETTB, but I don't think he ever did. A builder of the coolest GB cab designs, for sure.

In looking back through the few years of posts in ETTB, I see that we've probably had around 75-80 different players post in the thread. We probably only have 20 or so who are posting now, but it was bigtime back in 2011-12. Maybe my posting links to the GTG pictures will get more of these guys interested again. Or I could just parse out everyone's TB usernames and hit them with @pings in a giant post in this thread! :) I will at least do like a top 10 posted-then-not-active-now list of ping names.

Wow, no posts in ETTB in September! Let me get the first one in, before it becomes October!

Have any of you followed the media on the Asheville Bass Hang? This ninth one is scheduled for next Monday night, October 9. It's obviously geared toward bassists in the Asheville/WNC area who can hang out until 10 PM and then not have far to go home on a weeknight. Still, some here may want to go participate. I'm thinking about it myself. Lots of good gear, giveaways, great music. What do you think?

I did read about that Michael.... It sounds like it would be real fun, and a lot of good stuff going on, and prizes too!!!! I know it would be a blast if some of us could go and check it out.

It sounded so sweet this weekend, I'm crazy for wanting to play anything else really, but variety is so nice lol.

The combination of that new neck and some NOS Dingwall SS strings make the notes snap, pop and sizzle....can't believe how much the switch to all wenge made on the sound!

Wenge is a great neck wood. My Warmoth J-bass has an all-wenge neck. It's really, really stiff and the sound is very balanced, top to bottom. Much the way Warmoth describes it on their site.

I've always wanted to get a bubinga neck. I have a Warmoth Dinky J body that's quilted maple over swamp ash that might be perfect with the bubinga J-bass neck they have in stock. See the thumbnail image.

Since I have two other Warmoths, I can mix and match a little. I'd mentioned the all-wenge neck I have. The other neck is padouk, with an ebony board. Although the headstock was damaged in an accident in 1996, I was able to glue the split back together and it should hold.

From the Warmoth site: "Fine grained and super smooth, Bubinga has long been a favorite of the discriminating ears of the famous. Used by companies such as Rickenbacker for fretboards and Warwick for bodies. As a bass neck, it brings bright midrange and a thick well defined bottom. Bubinga is also a very stiff wood adding strength and stability to its list of assets. This is one formidable tonewood!

Due to CITES restrictions, international shipment of this species has been suspended indefinitely. Please contact us for help in determining the best alternative species. Shipment within the USA is not affected, and will continue as normal."

Wenge is my favorite too.... My best sounding Warwicks are always the ones who have the Wenge neck/fretboard combo.
A lot of Warwick basses have Bubinga used as the body wood, but not the neck. A lot of what you see if it's not a Wenge neck is an Ovangkol neck.
