I’m guilty, wanted the Kern for over a decade. Finally got one and rarely ever play it. Just easier to grab a Darkglass or GK and go. I’m glad they don’t charge bass players with gear neglect.
I know there’s some East TN Ric fans here…. So, I had some time to explore the modified ‘02 Ric 4003 that I bought recently. I also lucked up and found a used aluminum Hipshot bridge for it. BTW, Hipshot is months behind on aluminum bridges. I had to get a refund on the one I bought in March, that I’ve been waiting to come back in to stock.
Anyways, I put the original hi-gain pickup back in the neck position, after soldering the hot wire back on (former owner was not gentle). I like the bass a lot more now. If I can figure out and fix the damage to the original bridge pickup, I may reinstall it, along with a chrome treble bezel. Before and after:

Just FYI, and I have no idea if it's true or not, but I read somewhere on here it's not good for the components to sit for extended periods (months, years?) and not be powered up occasionally. I'm sure that's as accurate as anything you read on the interweb, but this one sort of makes sense.
That Kern is gone now, I think the owner had second thoughts and pulled it. Just for fun, here's mine with some sexy gut shots.
The reason the two pics of knobs don't match is I sourced a complete set of NOS bakelite chicken head knobs, just for fun and authenticity. The new cheap plastic ones are, well, just cheap plastic offshore replicas. I wanted the old ones because, well, 'Murica.
I may upgrade the tubes, since that poster stated the JAN GE and JAN Phillips made a huge difference. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm wide open to hear, my knowledge is pretty vacuous when it comes to vacuum tubes. (see what I did there?)

Where are the gigs at this weekend?
I'll be with Clint and the boys down in Sugar Hollow on Saturday, it looks like the weather will cooperate, but load in and setup is gonna be a scorcher.

As in: Link Removed? They don't have a 2022 schedule of events on the website yet, but I see that Hillbilly Jedi played there last year. (I don't do Facebook, but I figured that it must be Sugar Hollow on Norris Lake!)

I'm pretty sure the 16H didn't make it's debut at Sugar Hollow, I checked out the Google pics and I've played there before, it's one of the EASIER load ins.
I can't recall offhand where the inaugural gig for the 16H was, but I've played there a few times. All of the docks run together in my mind and the names are all interchangeable. I used to have all of them stored in my TomTom, so those devices make you lazy and forgettable. I do remember you have to back your vehicle down the boat ramp, and their "garbage" pontoon would meet you there. Picture a pontoon boat missing all the safety railing. It was basically a flat deck with a drivers seat. It took four guys to get the 16H from my chevy HHR onto the boat, and it was "dicey".
(I know what everyone is thinking, how did that monster fit in a chevy HHR? The answer is, "barely"!)
We had one guy on the boat, two standing in the water between the tailgate of my HHR and me giving directions and holding the hind end.
I wouldn't do that now for a 2000.00 dollar gig lol...

BP stands for boody pusher. If not it should be rebranded. I’m am now curious about new tubes but WOW those high end chickens cost some corn.
Ended up across the border in Mt Airy, NC for the fiddlers convention. It’s been 10 years since I’ve been to this one, but trying to fit a bunch of festivals in this summer.
Attended a couple of workshops yesterday morning with my SO (she plays fiddle) and brought the upright into one jam. Afterwards, one of the instructors said his group was competing but we’re short a bass player. So I joined up for the competition. Good guys, great pickers. Bluegrassers in Old Time clothing.
Had a great two song performance and a late night jam, after. Will post a video once they’re uploaded to YT or FB.

Outdoor shows are sort of over, we played "Music on Main" last Saturday in Oneida, we waited out the rain to set up, and the evening was perfect!
I'm having fun going back to the first year of ETTB and reading about what we were all up to 11 years ago ("Just Like That!") All of you should do that when you get a chance- it's priceless, a slice of our music history. One of the many good things about this thread.
The reason I'm posting is that I came across the post I quoted from above. (@VictorG, if you are still on TalkBass, stop in and let us know how learning bass has gone for you.) I did a search on RunningBear's Den at Mountain Mall in G-burg, and apparently Victor closed that business, or moved it. On Mountain Mall's Level F is a music store- Doug Wyatt Guitars. My question is- do any of you know Doug Wyatt, or follow his music? He's got some definite chops..
It is always amazing to me to come across yet another musician in east Tennessee that I had never heard of!
"When Dingwall Came To Oneida" But one never knows, there could be a player living in Oneida who has one.
One could say that Phil Jones Bass gear is the personification of Jeff- Your hat on the stack is very fitting. Phil should use that pic in a promo.
