Just had a second gig at the Hard Rock Hotel in London - recently rebranded as the Cumberland (side note: it’s a lot of fun to come across all these place names I know so far from home). They’ve picked us up for a regular monthly show, and we’re pretty thrilled - the last two were quasi-auditions, unpaid. But the upcoming ones are paid, plus food and drink. I’ll take pictures in honor of @BassCliff .

I'm playing a production of Footloose - the Musical at the Bijou in mid-July. I'll post details closer to time. Jeff Elkins has given me good info on playing that show.. thanks, Jeff!

Gigging however, doesn't seem to be in the cards. Two projects seem to be stuck in drama land and going nowhere, and it kinda saps my want to play. That part is on me, I get it. I'll keep playing to youtube videos and keeping my chops up.
If anyone wants to get a beer some night after work, I'm 10 minutes from downtown Knox.

Playing with CKB this Saturday at Sugar Holler. Played a private event last Saturday. I'm also filling in with my old buddy Odell and his band Renegade on Friday.

I’m at Tn Taphouse 6/17 7p-10p and at the Casual Pint Northshore 7/1 (probably 8p-11p). I’m feeling like switching things up and playing basses that normally stay home… may even play through two rigs like the old days, and use my Ashdown UK Tweed CTM-30. Who knows.
I've sort of been staying off TB this year, and my bank account is starting to reflect that....
Did a handful of fill in gigs for Short Term Memory, played the July 4th bash in Huntsville TN with the Clint Keeton Band, and did a duo gig at Orange Hat Brewery this week with Jake Gray.
Finally, starting to feel my age, I'm developing some more arthritis in both hands, I really feel it after the last couple of weeks! That and the heavy Phil Jones rigs don't get out as much. Well, it had to for the 4th bash, I used the 8T-16B-M500 rig, still had to turn way down to keep the bass from overdriving the mix.

Jeff, good to hear from you. I think you need to get a good short scale bass! I have several now, and I'm finding them a lot easier on my hands and wrists. Are you still playing upright at church some? Upright is very unkind to aging hands. Glad you had the gigs, for sure!
While I'm posting, my current show is Footloose the Musical at the Bijou Theatre this coming weekend (14-15-16). We did the cast singalong today. Not only is it a very strong show band, but the ensemble singing is terrific. It's a very high-energy show. The score has six big 80's songs- Footloose, The Girl Gets Around, Somebody's Eyes, Holding Out for a Hero, Almost Paradise, Let's Hear it for the Boy. I'm looking forward to tech week, starting Monday, and the performances.
@Jeff Elkins and I have consulted on this show some recently. He said it was his first musical ever. What a way to start! He also sent me a PDF of the bass book, which has been very helpful run through ScanScore software to play out some of the more syncopated parts. The big Footloose numbers are running around 170 to 180 beats per minute, which is like riding Thunderhead at Dollywood. My fingers keep coming off the rails (frets)!
For this show, I'm playing my Synapse 4-string into a small pedalboard of tuner>comp>chorus>Sansamp BDDI, then into the Genzler MG350-BA10-Combo-S2 combo amp. I can't believe the sound that little setup puts out!
Jeff Roller, if you ever get out of the giganto PJB business, you should look at a nice lightweight Genzler setup. @MaxSpinrun swears by his 115-3 cab. Only 36 pounds! I can pick up my Genzler combo with one pinky.

Thought I'd check in and say the show's off to a very good start, with a sellout audience last night, despite the heat. Haven't heard from anyone here who's coming, which all I can say is you're missing out! I have a couple of comp tickets for the Sunday matinee- if anyone wants to bring their missus or come by yourself, they can be yours. PM me here.
The pedalboard has not gone the best this week. I seem to be fighting it for control. I'm planning on playing the 2:30 and 7:30 performances today straight into the Genzler combo and doing my tuning with the StroboPlus. Also was having hum issues plugged into the snarl of power strips (you should see it!) so am going to bum an outlet in the sound guy's power conditioner rack and see if that kills the hum. I'm set up in the stage left side of the Bijou pit right in front of three big rolling racks of sound gear, mostly the power conditioners and wireless mic receivers, of which there are 32. There are cables everywhere!
The band is rocking it! Two guitars, two keys, a winds player not just doubling but quadrupling, percussion and drums. One of the most fun shows I've played.

If anyone in the group plays any of the traditional acoustic instruments in the bluegrass and old time genres—or if you know anyone out that way—I just heard that Bledsoe county is starting a JAM program and is looking for mentors.
Junior Appalachian Musicians is a fabulous program for young people to learn to play music from our region. There are programs all over Appalachia, and I’ve seen amazing results from engaging these kids (both “on and off the court,” you might say).

Thanks, Jeff. Everyone had a great time. It was a lot of work, but well worth it.
The hum never went away. The two guitar players had it too. We all took to turning down our onboard volume controls. Dimmer packs + old Bijou wiring + everyone plugged into the same strips = hum.
I really enjoyed playing the Synapse bass straight into the Genzler combo.. simple, responsive, could be bright and modern, could be rounded off and mellow. Since I'd never played this combination of bass and amp previously, I learned a lot about using just the bass controls and the amp controls to get the sounds I wanted, instead of putting pedals into the signal path. I didn't need a synth pedal for "Hear It for the Boy" as the music director used a very period-sounding synth patch on her keyboard. That freed me up to use a nice deep piezo tone on the Synapse, which complimented her synth sound.
I also posted this pic in the big Genzler thread, but thought I'd post it here too. I was set up in front of the wireless mic receiver racks.

I did it and pulled the trigger and bought a Lakland 44-02 and had Bart pups and the John East Uni Pre installed! Very nice combination.
I'm jealous y'all have your own ETN group. I'm in Greenville, SC area but am in Kingsport 1-2 times a month to visit family. Any suggestions on where to see live music in Kingsport?
