Alien Love Charm is playing the Sara Jordan Birthday Bash with 13 other bands (!) at The Well on Thurs 11/14. We will play for 1/2 hour at 7:30, event runs 6:00pm-2:00am - I am also sitting in on bass for Missing Pieces, who are the first band on at 6:00.

Finally got a great group of musicians together. No band name yet, but we're moving along with a repertoire of tunes The holidays may slow us down a little, but we should be playing out just after the new year. Will keep you posted.
Hoping to come out and see you at "Annie". I assume tickets are available at the door if we come out spur of the moment?
I have the good fortune to be subbing on upright bass for the Shadow Mountain String Band tomorrow in Townsend. Anyone on the way to the Smokies, stop in and say hi, it will be a short 45 minute set, authentic old timey music!

Jody: It's an older Carvin PB-100 combo with a BX-500 head installed in the amp slot, and an Eminence CH-2010 neo speaker. I started the rehearsals with my Genz Shuttle 9.2/12T combo, but even as small as that amp is, it took up too much floor space. The Carvin combo is tiny, and it gives me and the trumpet player much more room in the "pit". It's plenty loud enough.. my ears have been ringing! It's been fun dialing in some different sounds between the Artcore and the versatile EQ on the BX-500.
Mike: the show is going to have some sellouts. Both last night and tonight already have sold out. (The venue seats around 300.) You can take your chances at the door, but it'd be better to get tickets ahead of time. If they sell out a performance, you won't be able to get in.
I hope to see you (and other ETTB'ers as well!) at the show. Come down to the pit and say hello!

Jody and Mike, and Jeff, I hope to see all of you sometime these next few nights (all sold out!) or next weekend at the show. This production of "Annie" is the best one of the three times I've played it, and I really like the ensemble. It's amazing for me to see this show sell out every performance, as most of the musicals don't sell like this one is. I'm blessed and humbled to be able to be a part of Sheryl's pit for this show. These eight musicians are playing their butts off.
I will continue to use the Ibanez Artcore SGB-200 and the Carvin combo this weekend, I think. I may inject the Zenith fretless into the proceedings, at some point.

Last weekend for "Annie" at ORP coming up. Friday and Saturday nights at 8, Sunday afternoon at 2 PM. It's a fabulous production, I've really enjoyed working this show for the Playhouse. Not sure of the remaining ticket availability at this point, I know we sold out all but one of the previous shows. Followup: I have an Fdeck HPF-Pre Series III box inbound. Will get it on Friday if the USPS estimate is correct. Apparently Francis Deck had some of them built up. I'm going to be plugging my Zenith fretted bass into the HPF-Pre, and then into the Carvin PB combo. The Zenith has onboard electronics that should provide impedence buffering for the Nano-Flex piezo pickup, but the HPF-Pre should provide a bit more going into the Carvin FX-500 head. Hopefully the HPF-Pre's high pass filtering system will allow me to eliminate the rumbling I am getting from the Zenith's piezo when the body of the bass rubs against clothing. I have been having to turn the bass's volume control down between songs to silence the rumbling.

Thanks to fraudulent charges to my Apple iTunes account over the holiday and thru the weekend, my card has been shutdown by my credit union and I don't know how long it'll be before my new one arrives. Maybe I can do an echeck purchase via phonecall.
Michael, you are going to love it. Mine is a must have for upright, greatest piece of advice I've received so far on amplifying upright.

Finished the show Sunday. Got the HPF-Pre late in the day Saturday due to the winter weather north of here delaying flights. I only got to use it for the Sunday show.
The HPF-Pre made a lot of difference in my sound. As noted in the main thread for the unit, it's subtle, but if you know your gear, you can hear it.
The Zenith fretted into the Carvin combo was much clearer and smoother sounding. It blended in much better with the brass and winds, in the sense it sat underneath and supported better. And it was smoother sounding, in a subjective sense. Was that because it was eliminating excess cone movement of the Eminence CH-2010 10"? Probably so.
I tried a variety of settings of the HPF variable filter, while keeping the volume control on full. My understanding is that the Series 3 is a cut-only volume control with no boost.
I could get stuff happening with the HPF filter that I couldn't with rolling off the BX500 bass control. At a certain point, it became too much cut as it approached the highest setting of 140 Hz. I'm not sure what frequency this was, but the most I set it at was 12 o'clock.

Hey Michael, I've been sick and I already mentioned the card mess.... I definitely wanted to see Annie and get to hear you work!
Hate that I didn't see this in time to make it. I'm coming off of a four year hiatus, and would have loved to show up and see the gear. And also meet some other players of course! 
Hate I missed it too, we had mandatory weekend work at the plant. Not going to complain too strenuously glad to have a job, but all work and no play, etc etc.
For those who haven't been to one of Michael's gigs, you need to go! If you're like me, it gives you something to aspire to!
