EBMM Short Scale Stingray Club

Quick rig run down with Shania on how he has his short scale tuned and strung up, which songs, ect.
I'm a fan of short scales and I decided to assemble one using a 25.5" scale neck from a Glarry and mount it to an aftermarket Mustang guitar (not bass) body I've used for a few different projects. The body came to me as an unrouted slab of paulownia on which I put a figured walnut top and routed it for an inexpensive dual rail humbucking pickup (from Amazon) which is wired directly to the jack.
When I installed the Glarry neck the short scale put but bridge close to the pickup very much in the StingRay position. The bridge is a floating stick bridge with a DIY tailpiece so I can use 30" scale strings on such a short scale.
Oddly enough when I plugged it in for the first time my first impression was it sounded a lot like my StingRays I had back in the '90s. Obviously, it doesn't have an onboard preamp but when I use it with my Bartolini NSTMB18 preamp I built into a box, it sounds even more like my StingRays of old.

After a rehearsal yesterday with the bass I mentioned in my post above I found some intonation issues due to my use of the stick bridge that were insurmountable so I replaced the stick bridge with an old Wilkinson 3D bridge I have while keeping the tailpiece and that solved the intonation issues.
It still has that StingRay vibe. It's a bit of a ratrod assemblage of parts so maybe I'll call it my StingRat.

Dude sounds great! He is getting a really finger like pick tone. He reminds me of Bernard Edwards, who sounded like he used a pick with his fingers.
Has anyone else tried eb cobalt flats? I just put a 45-105 set on and love them
I'm not a flats guy but I had an SBMM SS defretted and the fingerboard is too soft for rounds so I began a journey through flats... Chromes, LaBella DTF, something else that I can't remember. I've tried other flats on other basses as well. I hated them all for varying reasons. I then tried LaBella white tapes and they felt like an OK compromise. They lived on that bass until this evening. In the meantime, the short scale cobalt flats were released. The week sfter they were released, I decided to try them on my back-up to my EBMM SS, a fretted SBMM SS. I liked them far more than other flats I've tried and enough to leave them on that bass until this evening when I moved them to the fretless. I'm pretty sure they'll stay there. I'm not sure yet what will go on the back-up. We'll see. Bottom line, I like the cobalt flats a lot and certainly more than any other flats I've tried.
Continuing this as to your sbmm fretless, how do you like it? What type of music are you playing with it? Does it have a good fretless sound? I have a starry night and a sbmm Daphne blue short scale. Defretting it sounds fun
I have a Starry Night as well...
Before moving the the fretted 30 inch scale EBMM, my main bass was a fretless 33 inch scale Bee Bass with a coated fingerboard that I loved. It had great growl & mwah and fretless is so expressive. I used Kalium nickel rounds on it.
The SBMM is fine, but not great. I think if I had the fingerboard coated and went to roundwounds, I'd be much happier with it. The soft fingerboard would really suffer from rounds as it is and I haven't found a string yet that gives me all I want without chewing up the fretboard. The Cobalt flats get me closer than ive got before, but still not all the way. So, the short answer is not bad, but not enough to excite me. Before the EBMM, basically all I played was fretless. Now I rarely play it.
Since my last post here I’ve spent some time with the fretless. With the cobalt flats, I like it. It has more growl and more mwah and I’m enjoying it more now.
I finally found one!!! Met up with the reverb seller in person and made the deal. My StingRay collection is complete . My Sandberg will be sacrificed but its EBMM StingRay basses that make me happy.
It sounds soooo good!!! It reminds me very much of a 2band old school , 70’s retro . It has that PUNCH!!.
Perhaps the short scale enhances that punch even though it’s a 3band. This one will keep rounds out. My passive is perfect with the TI Flats.
