I have a problem on a EBMM short scale that I just bought from Reverb... to me it seems like the tone control has no affect at all. I tried with the volume knob in and out, and with 3 different pickup positions. Originally when I first plugged it in, I played with the tone control (wasn't getting any tone change, but I did hear a crackle sound)... tapped a little on the knob, and occasionally I was getting that crackle (like the signal was breaking up). It's not happening any more... but still no change in the tone. Assuming the wiring is good... is there anything else that is known to cause this? If the wrong value cap was put on the PCB, I assume that might do it. Thanks, Chris

I'm assuming that this is a used bass? Have you opened up the control cavity and looked at the wiring? It may be a disconnected wire, possibly a bad connection or a bad potentiometer.

Bumping thread for any updates, really interested in getting a short scale EBMM bass. (And so peeved at myself that I’m late to the game and missed out on the TC StingRays).

Does anyone know how many different runs of these EBMM has done?

I ask because I've been watching for a while and these short scale EB Stingrays very rarely come up for sale. It seems the combination of not a lot being made and people being happy with them makes them a rare find on the used market.

Im pretty sure there has been an annual run since 2019 which was when I got my raspberry pearl.

have any of you swapped out the pup for another? If so, why, which, and how do you feel about the results?
I’m happy about mine but thinking about swapping the pup in my backup SBMM SS Stingray. I just noticed for the first time today that the EBMM pup is significantly hotter than the SBMM. I’m keeping the SBMM in Eb for some R&B and gospel tunes that bands I’m in are playing but the volume difference makes swapping more complicated.
Thoughts?

I would probably forgo the pickup swap and get one of these instead . You can use it with both of your basses.

To be smart… that would probably be a better path. Or I could just set up a new patch on my HX Effects specifically for that #2 bass and raise the level adequately. But isn’t buying something new more fun?

My first short scale Stingray was a Sterling I hated. I bought it during the height of the covid supply crunch, so I wasn't able to check it out beforehand and got one that was a QC mess. I quickly got rid of it.

But I'd been watching for an EBMM version. One had never come up for sale locally until a few days ago. I was able to check it out in person, which was great considering the cost. Also buying it through FB from a nice guy to saved myself shipping costs and him seller's fees.

The one good thing I've noticed for people who own them is these limited runs means they hold their values very well. This thing is very fun to play.

This one has flats on it. Is there a favorite round wound people use on these? I mostly use D’Addario Nickel round wounds.

Congrats! My Starry Night is my number 1 and probably a lifetime bass.

For rounds, I use DR Sunbeams and like them a lot. If you prefer stainless, I have also liked their Hi Beams. In the past I've used Stringjoys and GHS Balanced Tension rounds. I liked both but preferred the Sunbeams. In flats I've tried LaBellas, Labella white tapewounds, D'Addario Chromes, and EB Cobalt Flats. I hated the Chromes, the LaBellas were OK, the tapes were cool on my defretted SBMM SS, but I've ended up with the EB Cobalts on both my defretted and my backup SBMM which is tuned to Eb.

did you ever swap? i recently got one and find the pickup pretty uninspiring. I've been looking at some quad coils but info is light even on these forums

I didn't. the band i mentioned fell apart and I find myself not playing the SBMM bass, only playing the EBMM and I don't feel the need to swap that pup.
