EBMM StingRay Special Club

Wonder if that weight includes 2 x 9v batteries..? Each battery will be 1.5 oz.
I wonder when Hipshot will start making Ultralight batteries.

All, I ran out and bought one of the PDN Neptune Blue Stingrays with the roasted neck a few years ago. I just did not bond with it. I played one of the Specials and bought it right away...last week. I love the bass. It's a single H. How are people eq'ing it to sound like the aggressive 2 band Stingrays? Boost the treble, cut the mids and cut the bass a little?
Has any video compared all three boards yet?
charcoal/aqua/hd yellow...have my attention..
But none of them are maple and the ebony board is not a usual thing on stingray
I am a sucker of the real vintage (1978) stingray sound
And still got tempted to try the SR5 special because of Miki
(Had laid my hands on the smoothies / classic / 40th, the 40th is the closest one but lacking a B and limited colour options)
Local dealer will probably have stock arround Xmas or 1st quarter next year.... talking myself out of ordering one without trying.

Don’t be afraid to use the EQ. Crank the treble, like Honey Badger, it don’t mind.

This thread may be a bit biased, but here goes anyways... I am buying a new bass in this price range. I have it narrowed down to the Stingray special (H or HH) or the Fender Elite PJ natural. Looking to buy a "keeper". Hopefully a "forever" bass. Just for fun, the GC by me has a brand new clearance Caprice for $1,100. However, I'm looking at maple necks this time... Thanks! Please hold the snarky comments.
Get what works for you. Play them.
Those three basses are going to have different tone profiles (well, the Fender and Caprice will cover some of the same territory). What tone do you prefer? Do you swoon over a hollow-log P tone or a burpy Jazz tone? Those are going to be a challenge for a StingRay, but the Specials get one closer. Or does the StingRay fullness and bite work for you? You won’t get that with a PJ. And the Music Mans will feel quite different than the Fender. What works for you?
Me, I like Music Man basses. I like StingRays. And I like the new Specials. They work for me.
I purchased a Fender Elite PJ in April and quickly declared it my forever bass. I would have been fine with it. But, coming from guitar land, I’ve always had a sweet spot for EBMM. So when the new marketing package dropped for the Stingray Special, I got pretty caught up in it. And this is after owning 5 different Cutlasses and Caprices, I really wanted one of those to work for me. Anyway, my Stingray Special got here in August and I have since sold my Fender Elite PJ. The Elite sounded good in both passive and active. But the organic woodiness of the SRS with the EQ flat is better than both modes on the Elite. And then you have the flexibility of boosting or cutting from there, and the flexibility of the pickup variations should you go the HH route. It’s almost two pounds lighter, and the pole pieces don’t stick up like on the Elite P. Despite not having the compound radius of the Elite, the SRS neck works better for me. The Elite was very comfy in lap but it’s body shape makes playing right over the J pickup more of a “reach” than the SRS where my hand feels good hanging out over either pickup. I'd keep the Fender passive if I were to go that route, and I'd take Stingray if I wanted to go active. Elite? Meh. I went for the Fender Professional Jazz though, and Stingray Special was in play too. I kind of get along with passive Fenders more these days, so Stingray didn't win out for me in the end.
It’s what feels best to you of course. I looked at Elites and have an American Pro jazz. I love Fenders so no snark here.
For me the Stingray Special feels like a future classic. The neck, the perfect balance, the super versatile controls (I have an HH).
I also have a Caprice, which is a great bass at that price if you feel like grabbing a non-forever bass too!
