Someone at EBMM said it had to do with different companies plating different pieces of hardware, I believe. I'm usually kinda of OCD about this sort of thing, but it doesn't bother me in the least on these. I just like playing it!! lol
About the shine on the tuners: I think the knobs are plastic, mitigating the use of a flat finish. My chrome ones certainly feel like plastic. I don't mind, BTW, I like the weight reduction, and that's how Gotoh does it with the Res-O-Lites.

How's the neck on the Special?
After playing a P bass for a couple of years, I bought an EBMM Caprice and discovered how much more comfortable is its smaller neck. I always loved chunky necks but man... this thing is so easy to play.
I guess the neck on the Special is chunky like a P bass?

I don't know what the neck spec on my 4HH Special is but it's certainly doesn't feel quite as chunky as 90s and 00s Stingrays I have.
Both it and my 2014 LE Sabre (which also has a roasted and wax/oil finished neck albeit highly figured) are the most comfortable Bass necks I've ever played and they absolutely feel exquisite.
My charcoal sparkle has it and to be honest I hadn't really noticed. The tuners look great but more importantly FEEL terrific. It's the sort of detail that you get in some cars which just makes you feel good - anyway a couple of pics (and why not haha) - in the second the shiny knobs are more noticeable - but who looks at their bass in such bright light except to take a picture?!! I think they look fine and once again really feel good to the touch. I understand where you're coming from on this but I think EBMM got the detail right and say leave well alone!! I love mine!!
(Btw those knobs on the 5HH are off a 2003 SR5 - which has a white of and chrome knobs now)
Really like the cruz teal with the black pickguard...looks sharp!
The tuners do feel great. I dont think EBMM intended to mismatch the hardware. They just couldn't source all the hardware in matte black. It's just an aesthetic subjective opinion of mine. Not intended as a knock on the basses at all.
What are those little stomp button caps called and where do you get them?

Question: is the EBMM Stingray Special 5 available fretless, either H or HH? (the SR Special not the standard). If so, is it lined or unlined board?
Dropped mine off at the dealer/tech one last time. All they keep giving me is, “Yeah, but can u hear it thru your amp?”, which is fair but the fret noise is ridiculous. I made noises about wanting warranty, we’ll see. My brother, who is a 32 year pro bass player and tb member, messed with the setup briefly, and he’s fussy, his parting comment was ‘something ain’t right’.
