@Surely_Bassy, I'm constantly amazed at how light my Amethyst is. I'm sure it's got to be sub-8 pounds, like yours. It's one of my lightest basses, yet it doesn't have that toy-like feel that I get from many light basses. It's sooooo well constructed.
@Benko, sorry you're leaving the Amethyst Sparkle Society, but I hope you find the 5H of your dreams.
On second thought, let's call it the Amethyst Sparkle Association, since the other one's initials are A.S.S.

I’m a hardcore burst and natural fan and all six of my current basses are one or the other. But, even though that’s all I buy for myself, I have no problem admitting when a different kind of finish looks really good.
However, the Amethyst Sparkle is that rare non-burst or non-natural finish that actually makes me think, “Yeah, I could definitely see myself buying one of those!”.

They sound and play and feel even better than they look.
It my favorite finish that I’ve ever seen on a bass.
I’m anticipating the next batch of BFR’s or updated finish options. I’d love to have one of those ocean sparkles you posted a while back. I hope that becomes an offered finish.

Wow, I think I like the Ocean Sparkle even more than the Amethyst Sparkle. 
You guys love the looks while I'm wondering how much the paint weighs so I can remove it!

. I don’t find them to weight more. My Amethyst Sparkle 5 is 8lbs . That’s great for a 5 string. My Sandberg 5 is 9lbs. Anything 9 1/2 lbs or less is good for a 5 string. With the Specials, I have found that the ash/ ebony HH models weigh more.
Why ruin a sparkle finish if you don’t like it ? But one in another finish .

It is quite pretty , but it would be 2nd choice if I had to pick between the 2. That pink champagne sparkle is a close 3rd.Wow, I think I like the Ocean Sparkle even more than the Amethyst Sparkle.

I've read in flake posts here that a Marty Bell type refin adds at least 1 lb. to the weight of a bass. The above finishes aren't huge flake with lots of extra clear coat so may 1/2 - 3/4lb? A SR under 8 lbs. is a dream and have only been able to get this with G&L + Empress.
I used nitrocellulose lacquer when I refinished a tele a zillion years ago and doubt it was more than a few ounces.

My 5HH is so magnificent - even "game changing" as they say - that it's really petty to worry about the weight, but it's my heaviest at 10.2lb.
As someone said, it's a good reason to get started on a core routine.

Yep that was me. It was the ash and ebony and the paint and the extra pickup. Not just the paint . A combination of factors.
