Hey to all my EBMM Stingray.Stingray Special owners. So, recently picked up both of these specials and really dig the tone, weight, and scale....considering I am using Lakland's as well with 19mm spacing and 35" scale. So, here is my dilemma....I am really struggling to get the action where I want it. I prefer a super low action and am really struggling to get that with these. I have the saddles dropped all the way down (they technically will not go down to the bridge plate) and it is still too high. Since it is happening with both I am guessing maybe this is a common thing? What are your solutions? I am usually not big on neck shims, but thinking that may need to be the case. If you are "shimmed" how does your neck pocket look?

A small shim installed by someone that knows what there doing works great. Installed on both of my MM Classic and you can’t tell by looking at it. Shim away.
My Classic Series SR4 with shim at rear of neck pocket. After adding the shim you'll find that the saddles are a tad too low and have to be raised.

Nice Specials. I think it is common. I run extra low tension Ernie Ball Slinky Flats on mine. I had to put together a custom order set but it works for me.
While the action on my Special is definitely lower than the action on my Fender, I set it so low I get the slightest amount of fret buzz which adds to the aggressiveness of the tone. Your post has me thinking about shimming both of my basses though. I'd say this is a common issue
Was traveling and only had the Ibanez ATK. A great bass but happy to be home and playing my Special! The Special really just smokes every other bass I have played in the tone department.
I'm glad I have the ATK as a backup though.
Still dreaming of a fretless Stingray 5 but don't really have the money to spend yet...

Anyone using DR Black Beauties on their Special? Care to share impressions and maybe a sample?
While on the subject of strings, can someone recommend a nice set of flats that don't cost an arm and a leg? I have Roto Sound rounds on my HH special and was thinking of putting flats on my 4H for a little different sound.
D’Addario chromes flats. Definitely recommend light gauge
I have Cobalt Flats on a Special, but I use Fender flats on numerous basses and like them a lot. Quite inexpensive but good-sounding flats, imo.
Funny, I was just looking at the fender flats, seem like a good option.
Played a festival on Thursday evening and used my recently purchased Stingray Special 5HH for the whole show. Well, almost the whole show. The festival organizer stopped us midway through our fourth set and said there are reports of lighting so they asked us to end it there.
We got everything torn down and in their cases or bags and were halfway done loading up our cars when the skies opened. The weather turned from no rain to torrential downpour in just seconds. Luckily we already had the PA, lighting, and some of our of instruments/amps loaded, but I was just going to get my car at that point. Everybody else quickly moved everything remaining under our tent while I drove back, but that only did so much. Things got WET.
Luckily, there was no apparent damage and everyone got home OK. It sucked at the time, but we’re laughing about it now.
But, to get back on topic, my Special sounded fantastic. A photographer friend was getting some shots and talking to the crowd as he walked around and said we got lots of compliments. I attribute it to the bass (not the bass player, the bass!).
This was NOT the best picture of me that he took, but it was the best shot of the bass…
