I gave the Cobalt Flats another shot, and I am so glad I did. I gave 'em the ol' @Stranger Danger -suggested Wonder Wipedown treatment, and that must have been the missing piece of the puzzle for me. No more getting stuck on the string. Feel great, sound even better.
Finally got my Special 4H out to the church band yesterday mornin' with the Cobalt Flats, and could not have gone better. I was blown away by how much growl I could get plucking over the pup, and then warmer thump territory plucking nearer the fretboard, no EQ adjustments needed. And the sustain is insane. Drummer was extremely complimentary of my sound, so I think these Cobalt Flats will be here to stay. I look forward to seeing how they age. Thank y'all for the motivation!

Also where did you get the clear pickguard?
I sent a tracing of the original pickguard to WD Music-Pickguards. Got one clear and one matte black.

First 48hrs impression on the Darkray are very positive. I have seen some call it a gimmick yaddi yadda. It's not a gimmick, the drives are very usable and I don't regret trading in my AO900 towards this. I would say someone purchasing this should not buy it and expect it to be a stingray. yes, it's still a ray and when you hear it clean or driven it'll sound like a ray. but if you're going to sit alone in a quiet room and try to make it sound like anything other than a parallel bucker with a two band you will be disappointed. It punches like a ray, the drives can be used with the gain cranked and blended in lightly for some rowdy grit or you can blend all the way to driven and use light gain and get a heavy gritty sound. and everything in between. As pointed out by the video @LadyLoveStingRay5 posted with the bassist using the fuzz drive on the track very tastefully it doesn't just do metal and djenty stuff.
It's motivated me enough to resetup my recording gear so I can get some decent (if my playing can hold it together) demos of the drives.

That white is a very cool finish. I have the Bongo BFR with the same finish:
I wish they did something with a bit more variety this time though. They did the Crescendo Bongo last year and the Slugger as a 5 string earlier this year I believe.
If I hadn't just bought the Darkray 5 in white I would consider that white BFR, although I generally prefer a single Humbucker.
Although not an SRS, I wanted to share this addition - Since we are all lovers of EBMM... It had a parchment pickguard, but I swapped it for tort (which makes it sound better anyway) ;P
