EBMM StingRay Special Club

StingRay Special with Aguilar Tone Hammer and/ or SL212 cab experience anyone? I have no knowledge of what the Aguilar stuff is known for. Anyone have an opinion? I want something that can do vintage warmth and a nice clean tone as well.

Will it be compatible to MarkBass ?
I’ve never used a Markbass before but I use an Aguilar tone hammer 700 and an AG 700 each going into an SL112. I think it does the warmth thing pretty well.

I'm alternating between a Aguilar TH-350 and a Mesa D-350 through a Mesa Subway 1x15 and Warwick 2x8 bass cab. I think the 2 amps, both made in USA represent the best that is out there in class D amps. I think you'd like the Aguilar, it's airy has both depth and clarity without any of that low end muddiness and has some tube thing going on even though it has no tubes. It does take some knob twisting and fiddling to get the sound you want whereas the Mesa is more straight forward. I went back and forth between the Mesa D350 and Aguilar for weeks and could never decide which sounded best with my Specials so kept both and sold all my other amps, both are superb.

this is my set up! Tone Hammer 500 through a SL112. I keep everything about 12 o clock. Super warm vintage tone. I absolutely love it. I do all my coloring with the SRS5 preamp.

I guess I'm about to be a member of this club.

The bass in the pic ships tomorrow....

What’s the fattest gauge strings you guys run with your special? My band tunes to A and I was looking to get bigger strings but it doesn’t look like the nut can be modified really. Any tips? Currently playing .125 set. Thanks gents.

With every Stingray 5 I’ve ever owned of any type, I always used 50, 70, 85, 105, 135.

When my new Stingray 5 Special arrives this Saturday, I imagine the 2nd or 3rd thing I’m gonna do with it is to install that same gauge of Pro Steels on it.

Perfect. That’s excellent. Thank you the reply. I’ll be taking a trip to Sweetwater to pick up a heavier set tomorrow.

Errr…:D

I hope you are looking for the 5-string sets.

Ryan sez I got the last of the 4-string sets (I normally I have a bunch of the 135 singles for a round-about reason on hand, otherwise, I’d have ordered the 5-string sets)

Good luck….
