Many of us were waiting for a very long time for the new coIors, however the new pastels didn't go over so well with everyone. I think a lot of this was due to a lack of fretboard options. You could get any fretboard wood you wanted as long as it was rosewood. With another fretboard selection, pick guard color or black hardware some of them might have been very appealing to myself at least. Still, a few new sparkles or bursts would've surely been appreciated by most of us. It was a nice big build up to disappointment. I think the best announcement for Spring 2023 was that of going from the hard case to the new Mono bag. If we learned anything from this it was if you see something you like out there, grab it before it becomes unavailable. Now, unless you're willing to put up some big big bucks for something out of the vault or a BFR you are rather limited to buying new. Unless EBMM has some surprise announcement up their sleeve, I'm looking to 2025/26 for the next color batch announcement, only with much less enthusiasm and expectation. Better to be pleasantly surprised than rudely disappointed.

I’m surprised EBMM didn’t use a limited run of colors before determining the new ones they are putting into production. I don’t care for the sparkle finishes, matching headstocks or bursts (preferring natural or solid colors), but I appreciate that they made those available as an option for those who do.

The limited run of the short scales would have been a great way to determine what colors to use for production. Ironically it is the 2 colors closest to the NAMM 2023 colors (white and seashell) that are the slowest sellers at the moment.

The new finishes are too similar to each other and look very similar to recent Sterling By Music Man colors. Ideally EBMM should give buyers color and neck options like Fender’s Mod Shop, especially at the price they are charging.

I would imagine EBMM did some market research on the colors. It wouldn’t surprise me that the findings of such research differed with a few vocal owners here or even the entirety of TalkBass. The research participants may have been dealers rather than players. And any players participating may have skewed younger than TalkBass, which we might assume is demographically older Ghanaian the market.

I could also see EBMM just winging it and releasing colors they they thought were great. It happens. It’s their risk.

I haven’t been a fan of the color since the initial launch of the Specials. But I’m probably not the target customer.

Taking into account the different runs, the Specials have had a remarkably broad spectrum of finishes since their launch, IMO. Sparkles, bursts, primary colors like black and white, pastels, etc. For those who don't like the new ones, there's always the used market.
Also, I recall a bunch of complaints when the previous set of finishes was announced, but people must have warmed up to them because the complaints faded over time. Maybe the same will be true of this run eventually.

I do agree that every time new finishes come out there are dissenters, but also plenty of people that like them.

This round I haven't heard many that have been excited about them...

Has anyone ever installed a HipShot Xtender Drop tuner on their Stingray Special?

It's obviously a different tuner one the Specials. I just can't figure out if it's the BT1 or the BT13 or something else. A Reverb seller sent me what was supposed to be a BT1, but it turned out to one a BT3, which is altogether wrong. They aren't being very helpful offering only "please fill out our online return form" as a stock response answer to any question. BestBassGear doesn't seem to be returning emails or calls. Monday, I"m gonna reach out to Oscar at Hipshot, which I should have done first, it appears.

My understanding is that it's the BT13 with clover key, which has been out of stock at Hipshot for quite a while. I emailed Hipshot about this a few weeks ago and they said they had just received a long-awaited shipment of tuning machines from EBMM that will allow them to do another production run.

I’ll let ya’ll know. Thanx, @vinylphile, glad to confirm that. I’ll probably check with Oscar at Hipshot and see when I can get one.

I’m playing the Stingray at church. We have a tune that ends big on A and the Xtender kicking the B string down to A would be an awesome way to end the song. Oh, well, next time.

Just wondering if anyone has ever used EB wonder wipes on a roasted maple fretboard? I've used them on rosewood and ebony before just to condition the wood whenever I change strings, but I'm a bit hesitate to use them on roasted maple fretboard thinking it may darken the wood too much and it will stay that way. Anyone?
