I believe she uses Cobalt Flats on at least one of her Ray's; close enough

I never used multiple Basses so for my Gigging needs Rounds overall were a better choice

With my Special OEM Slinkys sound excellent but I am going to give Cobalt Flats a shot on next string change

I tried them on my Bass back in 2019[thought maybe a better fit for Band at time] and they sounded excellent
but they were sticky and left residue on my hands and Bass

Accords to TB posters if I clean them with 99% Isopropyl before stringing that cures problem

Question for you 5H owners. Do mainly play you Stingy in parallel, middle or series?

Parallel is king only 5H. Every setting sounds good and is useable .

As I'm sure you know, that my reason for posting.

I intentionally avoid The Vault. There have been some really tempting basses recently, some I found thanks to prods by a kindly TB'er who knew I might be weak enough to go for one of those gems , but I need to stick with what I have. Actually, my limit was supposed to be five, but I talked my way into a sixth bass this past summer so I coiuld have a relatively inexpensive bass to use for outdoors when the weather made it risky to take my good gear. I knew my wife, a classical clarinetist, would agree to that because she has a couple of relatively inexpensive clarinets (that still cost as much as all but my most expensive bass! ) that she uses the same way. I feel a little guilty because I played her, but my reasoning was still sound.

Does anyone besides myself wonder why this 3 way switch was never included with the 4H? I think EB dropped the Ball here? If they read these posts and I think they would be wise to do so, it's not too late for this to happen. They could come out with a Special Edition 4H Special or just call it an (Extra Special 4H) which would include the 3 way switch as is on the 5H. People would go gaga over it and subsequently those folk who thought they were finally done with Stingray Special purchases would suddenly be pulling expensive Christmas gifts from out under the tree they had bought for their kids, wife and dog and return them for something else. Great for Ernie Ball, divorce attorneys and Stingray Special lovers worldwide. Not so good for the toy, jewelry, and doggy biscuit industry.

I actually dislike that switch quite a bit haha. It's always looked a bit crude to me in contrast to the rest of the bass, and I prefer as few bells and whistles as possible. I know if I had a Stingray 5 I'd pick my favorite switch position and then it would bother me having it there never to be used. And if my favorite position ended up being the middle or pointing toward the neck? Forget it! That would bug me to no end.

I am done with buying basses as well. This year has been crazy for me. After I sell my Jazz bass I will have four different Stingrays and that’s all I really want right now.

Yeah I love the switching. My guess is that the 4H they wanted to keep simple to target the traditional Stingray crowd

Series mostly. Sometimes parallel. Pretty much never filter (center).

I buy the lightest 4 string set and buy a single B. But I think they discontinued the option for the single B.

I once used a EB regular Slinky B string and Colbalt flats for the rest of the strings and it sounded fine.

Seems a little more scooped, not sure. But it feels the best to me.

I've begun to use the parallel position of the switch, the position most toward the bridge.

I pulled out the Special tonight to run over a show for next week and spent the first 1/2 hour playing with the two positions. I'm not sure what or why I was attracted to the middle series /w filter position, but I've tried the bass with my IEMs, headphones, and studio monitors and I've definitely settled on the parallel position.

To my ears (what's left of them after my recent visit to an audiologist....), the parallel position w/ a little tweaking on the highs on my mixer brings out the all-stingray-all-the-time sound that I love about Stingrays.

I'll give it another listen with my amp rig later in the week, it was a little late to be breaking that out tonight. But I do 99% of my tone judgments without the amp since I don't rely on it primarily on gigs.

Im in the same boat as you there were a few other reasons i went with SRS H instead of HH, mainly around how close the Neck pickup was to the fingerboard for slap.. but i liked the tonal variety with the pickup mix and matching... but like you I really didnt care for this knob sticking out of a slot in the wood, id prob end up bending it or something stupid.. and then i noticed the back has also a massive route and backplate for the HH model as a result of the switch.. no one will see it but its still gross.

Its really bizzare to me that they don't just use Push/Pulls or a small toggle switch like G&L or something instead of a strat style lever switch... like you already have this massive banana control plat bolted on with 14 screws.. why not you know.. put the additional controls in said real estate lol.

The other thing that is SUPER bizzare to me about EBMM and specifically the stingray special.. they did such a great attention to detail and refining everything and modernizing things.. but then they dont even recess the battery cavity or backplates, which considering everything is CNCed and obivously they are routing it out anyways seems like it would be pretty easy to route out the depth of the control cavity lip.
