Im in the same boat as you there were a few other reasons i went with SRS H instead of HH, mainly around how close the Neck pickup was to the fingerboard for slap.. but i liked the tonal variety with the pickup mix and matching... but like you I really didnt care for this knob sticking out of a slot in the wood, id prob end up bending it or something stupid.. and then i noticed the back has also a massive route and backplate for the HH model as a result of the switch.. no one will see it but its still gross.

Its really bizzare to me that they don't just use Push/Pulls or a small toggle switch like G&L or something instead of a strat style lever switch... like you already have this massive banana control plat bolted on with 14 screws.. why not you know.. put the additional controls in said real estate lol.

The other thing that is SUPER bizzare to me about EBMM and specifically the stingray special.. they did such a great attention to detail and refining everything and modernizing things.. but then they dont even recess the battery cavity or backplates, which considering everything is CNCed and obivously they are routing it out anyways seems like it would be pretty easy to route out the depth of the control cavity lip.

That’s true about the battery compartments, but I’ve seen several other make of basses that use that compartment and none of them recess their compartments, either.

And I agree, with today’s CNC capabilities, that should be quite easy to do.

Having said all that, I haven’t had any issues with the compartments NOT being recessed.

One of the things about stingray that I always wish they did is I can’t get the one that I want. I want the regular stingray 5 body but with the old-school two band preamp. I know they make the five string classic, but I don’t like the slab body. Maybe I’ll buy an old SBMM and rewire it myself

How long can you own a bass before you consider the honeymoon over and the bass still makes you smile every time you play it? My Stingray Special 4 HH is so light, so comfortable, and responds to my fingers so perfectly it sometimes shocks me. I’ve had some great basses in my day, Roscoe, MTD, F bass, Skjold, and still have my Nordy…but they were also 5 or 6 stings. I haven’t committed to a 4 string as my main player in 20 years, and this Stingray Special 4HH gives me so many great tones, with the comfort and playability to go along with it like I’ve never had before.

I’m still in that phase with my2018 Mike Lull as well as my other Lull.

But I’m still wayyyyy in the honeymoon phase with my 4-month-old Stingray Special 5H. Big time!

Not looking for that to change anytime soon….

I got my 5HH at the beginning of the year and each time I pick it up I'm surprised at how light it is! I like my other basses, but I'm picking up this one way more often.

I've had my 4HH Special 2+ years & 5H Special 1.5 years now I keep both in their cases my dogs rough house way to much to leave them out So, my Jazz basses & P/J that stay out on my Rack gets played more but every time I pull out one of the Specials I get a sensation of "Yes indeed it's worth every hard earned penny Spent"!

I didn't even realize I've had my HD Yellow for over 2 years now. Crazy how time flies.

I've had mine for >1.5 years and surprised myself the other day when I picked it up to play it. I'd been using the LB76 primarily for a while (because I needed the high C string), or the Big Als and forgotten how nice the Special is to play (effortless!) and how many great sounds come from those two humbuckers. It is still a joy to play.

I’ve had my Special for 5 years and it’s still awesome. However I recently got one of the new Sadowsky Metro Express models and it’s really nice. Trying to split time though.

Don't know, but I've had mine for over a year now and I still can't get over it. I drive to work smelling my hand because the neck leaves it's print and it's delish.

The honeymoon is still going strong with my first Stingray Special 4H in Maroon Mist nearly 3 years later. After looking up the seriel number on the back and discovering that the bass was made on Feb 14th Valentines Day, I knew she was my true sweetheart!
