So now I can say had a EBMM 25th Anniversary it was excellent and best quality Bass I Ihad in my Hands up to that time
PS Special Club is more Interesting so I do understand

I wanted a caprice do badly when they were in production. A sudden diminish in income changed that to a Yamaha BB.
But those still look so choice
They are sweet. And an absolute steal!
But I have and love my BFR Slugger Special, which I feel I must mention for credibility and to maintain thread integrity.
I'll admit, I was anxious to hear the Special because of all the chatter on the oder models.Starting to feel like I am in the minority; bought my Special because of it's tone as compared to Pre EB, Classic and pre-Special
All the modern upgrades [to me] I see as a Bonus
I can get 'Good enough for Gov't Work' tones of others if needed; So far not really needed but I did take the time to find them

Well...
I'm quite happy with the Special's tone and like the other models, I can get it as Stingray-nasty as I want or as warm and mellow as I want. And without too much trouble about it, either. It is its own voice and one that I'm very happy with. I've recorded the Special a few times since I bought and no one has ever said, gee, that would be better if it were a (insert favorite earlier model Ray here). I'll admit, I bought this Special more for the light weight than the tone. I wasn't concerned with the tone.
I'll admit a fondness for the '92-'08 ceramic SR5 models. Those are a special kind of nasty, LOL. But with some EQ tweaking on my amp or mixer channel, or the EQ in my DAW, I get there with the Special.
Under those criteria you sure could have saved yourself a boat load of money by buying a piece of balsa wood and stretching 4 rubber bands across it, 5 if needed. Tongue in cheek of course.
IMHO, a corrugated cardboard body with a balsa veneer is where it's at.
I have been doing allot of critical listening lately between my four different stingrays and I would have to say the Special tonally it is my least favourite with a dry signal into my amp. Not saying it’s a bad tone because it isn’t just the least interesting of the four. When I add in compression and a HPF I like the tone so much more. The thing about the Special is it has a default tone that is not too coloured and can be sculpted into a better tone with processing, better than some other basses can because they are already too coloured. I like this about the Special!
It is also my most comfortable playing Stingray I own.

My Old Smoothie is my favorite 4 .
My Specials are my favorite 5’s. All 3 of them do what the others can’t . ( H, HH, Fretless)
My Short Scale has its own unique quality . ( Technically, it is a passive short scale Special).
None of my StingRays wear rounds.

Yes the 2 band sound has won me over. I didn’t think it would but it has. To be honest I am fine playing my 3 bands in and I really enjoy the sound but if I play my 2 bands first then immediately play a 3 band I am a little underwhelmed by the 3 band. Only noticeable really when playing each back to back. With fresh ears they sound incredible and I am really just nitpicking. I still am going to keep my 3 band stingrays because they still sound awesome and I enjoy playing them and there is certain music that fits them better.Sounds like you favor the flavor of the 2band. I believe she uses Cobalt Flats on at least one of her Ray's; close enough
I never used multiple Basses so for my Gigging needs Rounds overall were a better choice
With my Special OEM Slinkys sound excellent but I am going to give Cobalt Flats a shot on next string change
I tried them on my Bass back in 2019[thought maybe a better fit for Band at time] and they sounded excellent
but they were sticky and left residue on my hands and Bass
According to TB posters if I clean them with 99% Isopropyl before stringing that cures problem

Question for you 5H owners. Do mainly play you Stingy in parallel, middle or series?
