EBMM StingRay Special Club

The Specials feel , play , and sound perfect to me. I always loved ( and still do) the original 2bands in the hands of other players. In my hands, they sound a bit too bright .
Getting my Old Smoothie has been a life changer. I’m kicking myself for not trying one sooner. To me, they are the perfect 2band StingRay. They don’t sound or feel like what made it into production by Leo Fender. This prototype is smooth, warm, and so easy to play. It has more mids and lighter weight due to alder body . Neck is slim with thin frets. Yet it has that signature old school StingRay bounce.
My Specials are the perfect 5 strings. The Fretless and short scale are stellar at what they do .
With the Old Smoothie and my Specials, I’m one happy lady!!!:D
I made a grievous mistake by not buying a Smoothie when I saw one on sale when they were new. It was sold when I decided to pull the trigger a couple days later.:crying:

Totally agree about the specials. I don’t have a smoothie but my 5 string MM is about perfect. I love it more every time I pick it up:)

Funny, I do like my special but I always gravitate back to my 2008 SR5 or my 30th anniversary SR5.

I’m so glad we have options of different flavors of the StingRay. .

I agree, my 2007 ceramic has a slight edge over my 2019 Special. But it's such a tough call. Really tough.

I had a rare free night last night and spent about four hours practicing and working on some new songs my band is adding. I used my Special the entire four hours and was just loving the tone I was getting from all five pickup switch positions.

Moments like that make me question which I prefer. But, either way, I can't lose. So I try to just not think about it. ;)

I have that one in 5 string!! :hyper:

That finish looks good in pictures and video, but I saw one in the local Guitar Center and it looks AMAZING in person. It balances perfectly on that thin line between subtle and showy.

I ended up with a Vintage Sunburst Special that I just love but, having recently/finally dropped my all-bursts-all-the-time requirement, I sometimes wish I would have bought that Charcoal Sparkle Special before it sold.

To my surprise, these look fabulous with the right shade of brown tort pick guard.

I love how the black pickguard blends with the black hardware and the ebony fretboard.

But now I’m curious….

Definitely. The color in person to me looks like a starry night some times but it's hard to show it in pictures.
