EBMM StingRay Special Club

Thanks for pointing that out! Yes that’s the case. I’ll get a better shot. It’s just Purdy!
TBH, I didn’t look it over to much. I played it last week. Came back last night and it was still there and played it for 10 minutes and walked out with it. The saying play it before you buy it couldn’t be more dead on. I’ve bought one online before and it was a night mare. This one just sang and played amazing. Set up perfect.

It's beautiful too!

It's awesome when you find a bass that has magic something and just sings. That's the way I feel about my Aqua Sparkle

Bought the 2018 4HH dropped copper purely on reviews. Strung it up today with Magma Stainless steel 45-100's, set the truss/action and have been blown away...love the 8lbs....going on 3 hours playing to Punk radio underground Poland. Unreal Bass. Ordered a black pickguard, an Italia 4" strap and some gunstock oil and wax to keep this neck slick ftw.

Merry Christmas, all! You folks make this one of my favorite treads on TB.

Thanks for all the great info and support in the past year!

Welcome back!!! Is that Burnt Apple? GC exclusive now I think. That probably explains the case. Or maybe it's a meter of what ever is available. Ive seen current offerings of the same Retro 70's online with either this case to the Mono. ( Not the Natural Ash only available through Ernie Ball direct.) I can't explain it.
Love the sparkles !!!
When I purchased my Retro 70s the SAME retailer had a white with the hard case, and mine (sunburst) came with the mono. Neither are useful to me so I don’t care but it’s odd.

Yep. I saw that white one myself. I almost went for it. But I knew that my Old Smoothie is "Perfect" for my ears and hands. Just over 8lbs too.

mine came with the mono as well. The hard case looks better but the mono is more practical and lighter. I'm glad I got the mono.
The Mono case came with my Stingray Special and it's a fantastic case, no question.

But the lack of backstraps (for carrying it on my back, doncha know...:D) was literally a deal-breaker. I can't believe Mono made3 such a short-sighted move over no backstraps.

So I sold my Music Man-stenciled (I miss that part) Mono case to The Keeper Of All Things Sparkly :roflmao: around here and bought the Protec Contega case for my Special. Mike Lull sells Lull-stenciled Contega cases that have served me so very well (including the aforementioned backstraps!), so I ordered a Contega straight from ProTec.

The Special fits in it oh-so-very nicely, too.

I know it's hard to describe tone, but what do you get from the Smoothie that you can't get with the Special? I've passed up a couple of Smoothies -- including the one you bought! -- because I wasn't sure if it would stand out from my Specials.

I have a Stingray 4HH pickguard that I bought thinking it would fit your standard Stingray 4HH. This pickguard will only fit the Stingray 4HH Special basses. Pickguard for the 4HH Special has a deeper cut to allow for the 22 fret neck so other 4HH don't have to be cut that way.

I have it advertised in the classified area for parts. Still has the plastic on it. And mounting screws. It is vintage tan pearl tint. If interested PM me,I accept Paypal F&F for payment.

Punch!!! Something about the 2 bands and the way they punch. But in my hands, they tend to be too bright, especially with rounds. The Old Smoothie is the exception .

Compared to the Specials, I find the Old Smoothie is even more warm and punchy. Of course I’m using flats. All of my Rays have flats.
