I wish !!But the big question is ... was the case sparkly?
Thanks for pointing that out! Yes that’s the case. I’ll get a better shot. It’s just Purdy!
TBH, I didn’t look it over to much. I played it last week. Came back last night and it was still there and played it for 10 minutes and walked out with it. The saying play it before you buy it couldn’t be more dead on. I’ve bought one online before and it was a night mare. This one just sang and played amazing. Set up perfect.
Ohh nice. Matching headstock for the win!Fell in love with this girl last night and she came home with me!
Anyone else get a Tolex case with their special? Real nice case, but I was expecting the Mono case.
Playability and tone for days.Hard to capture the sparkle. But it’s so pretty.

The clarity, string to string evenness and response to touch is amazing. It's beautiful too!
It's awesome when you find a bass that has magic something and just sings. That's the way I feel about my Aqua Sparkle
No dive at all the hardware is the major reason it's lighter.I read here and there that these Stingray Specials are much lighter than the previous gen. Light is good, but how’s the balance? Especially on the 4H version? Any neck dive?
When I purchased my Retro 70s the SAME retailer had a white with the hard case, and mine (sunburst) came with the mono. Neither are useful to me so I don’t care but it’s odd.Welcome back!!! Is that Burnt Apple? GC exclusive now I think. That probably explains the case. Or maybe it's a meter of what ever is available. Ive seen current offerings of the same Retro 70's online with either this case to the Mono. ( Not the Natural Ash only available through Ernie Ball direct.) I can't explain it.
Love the sparkles !!!
Yep. I saw that white one myself. I almost went for it. But I knew that my Old Smoothie is "Perfect" for my ears and hands. Just over 8lbs too. When I purchased my Retro 70s the SAME retailer had a white with the hard case, and mine (sunburst) came with the mono. Neither are useful to me so I don’t care but it’s odd.
mine came with the mono as well. The hard case looks better but the mono is more practical and lighter. I'm glad I got the mono. When I purchased my Retro 70s the SAME retailer had a white with the hard case, and mine (sunburst) came with the mono. Neither are useful to me so I don’t care but it’s odd.

The Mono case came with my Stingray Special and it's a fantastic case, no question.mine came with the mono as well. The hard case looks better but the mono is more practical and lighter. I'm glad I got the mono.
around here and bought the Protec Contega case for my Special. Mike Lull sells Lull-stenciled Contega cases that have served me so very well (including the aforementioned backstraps!), so I ordered a Contega straight from ProTec. As does mine....My 5H balances perfectly so the 4s should be good
My 4H balances perfectly, the roasted maple makes the neck lighter too, and the tuners are lightweight ones.I read here and there that these Stingray Specials are much lighter than the previous gen. Light is good, but how’s the balance? Especially on the 4H version? Any neck dive?
I know it's hard to describe tone, but what do you get from the Smoothie that you can't get with the Special? I've passed up a couple of Smoothies -- including the one you bought! -- because I wasn't sure if it would stand out from my Specials.Yep. I saw that white one myself. I almost went for it. Punch!!! Something about the 2 bands and the way they punch. But in my hands, they tend to be too bright, especially with rounds. The Old Smoothie is the exception .I know it's hard to describe tone, but what do you get from the Smoothie that you can't get with the Special?
