But seriously, I doubt you’ll ever be able to put this one to bed until you have both or at least one in your possession, sounds like an impossible situation if you feel 50/50. Coin flip it, see if you can live with it?

I own a G&L L-2000 and a EB Stingray Classic and I like both of them. Out of the two the G&L is way more versatile.G&L Basses are very under rated and you will not be unhappy if you purchase one, and seeing that we are talking about the Special well the L-2000 is more versatile than the H Special but it would be a close call between the L-2000 and the HH Special.
Hello. I have my first bass on the way. It’s a 5 string Stingray Special in charger green. I’ve been playing guitar for a while now and late I’ve been wanting to learn bass. I’m a big Music Man fan so the Stingray should be a great fit to my collection.

My 2 cents - if you want the HH version, go for the G&L. I never cared for the neck pup on Stingrays. I go for the Stingray because I want the Stingray tone, which is the single H anyways. It's that tone, nothing else has that tone.
I absolutely understand your preference on pickguards, I have that same preference
Perhaps you could make a custom one?
That said, if you do dig the HH Stingray, go for it man. I'd always grab a Stingray over G&L, but that would be a single H version. Again, just my opinion.

That's a beautiful pair, congrats! I imagine it might be subtle but do you hear any tonal difference between the maple and ebony boards?
I love that, if there was a 4 in town that natural I would easily have taken it ahead of my Aqua, all else being equal, weight/playability etc. And, yeah, wow @ that neck/board.

-my Slinkys got dull sounding fast, sorta expected, so I put DR steel Lo Riders on it. Had one last pair around, used to be all I used but I moved on to the nickels, and figured the Steels might be a good match. Haven’t had a chance to plug it in yet, but I forgot the sorta draggy feel they have at first
-I am struggling with the ergonomics of the neck pup placement a little. I’m still calling the G&L #1 for now, but
-I just took a call for an audition Fri, where at least long term they expect you bring 2 basses, standard tuning and drop C. I could see the Ray filling that role at least while I get used to it. Wish me luck, I got great vibes out of the call, and things have been unusually dry for me the past couple months.
-anyone else drooling over the Mesa offerings? A Walkabout WD800 and a vertical 2x12 or v 2x15 for me, please. I was an early Subway adopter, and have owned both amps and all the cabs at some point. I still use the cabs, and have the D800 in my gig bag for backup, but mainly use GK heads.

I went to my LMS to check out the Ibanez EUB. Started messing with the upright, turned my head… and there it was. Had to go over and introduce myself, picking it up (Woah! It's a lot lighter than my 2003 fiver.), and asked to plug it in. That was it… LOVE.

Been following the Mega-Thread since I got mine. Must be close to 10 years now. Folks have been asking for a high power WA forever. Hopefully it's the cure. And I've been asking for a 2x12 for a long time. And now it's Christmas!!! 2x12's gonna have to wait. I've got a fiver to pay off first.
So I finally got to get the new kid out of the house last night. I had a gig with my tribute band and I normally play my Fender P5 with them. I brought it along to show it off and just to see how it sounded. They all liked it and I ended up playing it. I got a passable P sound using the front pickup with the highs cut a little and the mids boosted a little.
It just plays like a dream the roasted neck is smooooth. Really happy with it and everyone including the soundman loved it.

Position 4 does a very passable p bass impression. More so than the 5th position imho
I tried position 4 also it sounded great too I’ll keep messing with it.
Agreed. Position 5 sounds more Gibson SG , Guild , or even upright bass like if you approach it right .
