EBMM StingRay Special Club

Ugh, my beautiful, pristine Special 5HH is pristine no more. When we played this past weekend, we were set up next to a door that the bar owner closes while the band is on, putting a small table in front of it on the lobby side of the door. So our keys player had his rack partially blocking it, one our mains was blocking the other side of it, and my bass stand was in the middle in front of them.

But, while we were walking around talking to people in the crowd before our last set, it looked like some <insert-bannable-offensive-name-here> must have decided that walkling about 40 feet to the main door was too much and decided to push gear out of the way to use THAT door. I have no idea if my Special hit the floor, but it was off the stand and was leaning against the door and the stand for the main. There's a dent on the side and a scrape across the back. Neither is severe and the bass seems to have survived, but dang it, what would make you decide you HAVE to use that door RIGHT NOW rather than waste the 20 seconds it would have taken to walk to the door that was unobstructed. By the time you pushed stuff out of your way and squeezed through the tiny space you opened up, you would have been out the other door.

People $uck! :rage: :spit: :banghead:  :crying: :poop: :sour:

Big bummer

But it happens! First ding is the worst

This is the exact reason why I want a Sire Z7 for just these types of environments. Sorry to hear this.

Lol, i had something similar happen in my second gig with my special but it was my own fault / Fenders fault.

Playing the first of three sets, only about 3 songs in, and my strap goes flying off.. luckly i caught it and just played kneeled down. I have straplocks, so i figured the screw just came out and id have to give it the toothpicks treatment between sets... to my sadness i realized that it wasn't the screw coming out, the screw had snapped off inside... So i had to basically drill into my bass a bunch of times to get it out and even then i couldn't get it out. I was pretty upset about the whole thing, you would never notice it to look at it now, but it hurt to drill into it... worst part is i didn't even get some poopy knockoff stuff they were fender straplock screws/buttons.

The worst part.. it was one of the first shows in a lng time i was thinking of not bringing a backup bass.. because 1) ive never actually had to use the backup, 2) this was my first time going back to active, so a passive backup isnt much of a backup. Because of this, its also the first time i didnt tuneup and verify my backup.. and when i swapped to it, the truss rod needed adjustment and everything below the 4th fret was dead notes... also, the volume and EQ i had to mess with non-stop, whole gig was a nightmare lol.

Bummer! I always find the damage that other people inflict on my instruments hurts worse than when I do it.

It’s finally here… NBD…

Previously had 4 older SR5’s (2 anniversaries) and these Specials to me are a step above HANDS DOWN.

Love how light it is 8.5lbs, the tone is not as FIZZY as the other ones, those SS frets make a difference and that 5th string is the BEST one I’ve had on a SR5 or any other bass for that matter. Is that good… still in shock ⚡

This is an HH (my first HH) and thought I was going to have a problem slapping but not at all. Like the look of the H better but the range of different tones I can get from just one bass is remarkable… and the look know that I have it is growing on me…

Regarding the color (Aqua Sparkle) it was love at first sight once I saw a video on YT. It looks even better in person IMO… I’m in love ❤️

I lucked out since the bass is in pristine condition. Just a few marks on the pick guard. Ordered a new pick guard from Musicman should be here by Friday…

I would like to thank LadyLoveStingRay5 for the heads up about this one being available…

As GAS would have it… Already thinking of getting another one in my second favorite color Charcoal Sparkle so if anyone knows of one please PM me…

Thanks for having me… ✌️
Cool

Congrats! I've never had the pleasure of seeing one in person but the pics I've seen of the aqua sparkle always look amazing. I think it could end up being one of the nicest EBMM finishes ever.

Thanks Nick ✌️

Amazed how good it sounds compared to the older versions. Big improvement for sure.

I believe this one came with lighter gauge strings .40 to .125 perhaps and I like it. The 5th string SINGS and sustains forever. Will take it to my luthier to make sure is 100% and change strings and pick guard.

cheers,

BLUETIFUL !!!
My very 1st Special was just like this one. It is an amazing finish and true to form for all of the sparkle finishes , looks even better in person .
Truly one of EBMM finest finishes .
I am so glad that you like it and that I was able to help.
If I happen to see a charcoal sparkle, I’ll give you a buzz. Are you looking for another 5 or a 4 , or does it matter?
